Let us see how the cakes stack up:

Larry’s Quickly Googled Bun:

Flour: 1/2 cup + 2 cups = 100 + 2 x 200 = 500g flour

Real cake:
850g plain flour.

Hmmm the LQGB is a lightweight so far.

Fruit: LQGB 375 + 200 (WTF does a cup of sultanas weigh?) + 500 = 1075g dried fruit

Fruit: Real cake 1Kg + 750g + 1Kg + 275 = a shitload more than LQCB.

Sugar, eggs—the Real Fruitcake wins all this hands down. This cake could feed 20 people—as main course!

375 grams raisins
1/2 cup self raising flour
2 teaspoon mixed spice
1 cup sultanas
2 cup plain flour
1/2 cup port
250g butter
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon apricot jam
3 eggs
1 cup brown sugar
500g gourmet selection mixed fruit

Good oh Aussie. When it is made you can nominate a PO Box or something. Be patient—feed the flipping cake at monthly intervals with 1 capful (easiest measure I could think of) of St Agnes brandy. You can use good imported brandy but please NOT cheap Aussie brandy—is not real brandy.

1 very large, several litres, mixing bowl

1 Kenwood Chef Platinum stand mixer with doughhook

The two items are still in packing boxes.

I have said all this throughout this tirade of abuse from Larry (& Aussie earlier) been 100% consistent. I have given you the recipe, not that it would do you much good Grin

My mother used to cook it that way too. Only her fruit cakes had both port and brandy. Dear God they would have put anyone over the limit if they needed to drive home.
