Item I bought very early on

I bought this at a school fete very likely, something like that. The piece is not exceptional, earthernware not porcelain, no great handpainted decoration etc.

BUT

It is from the Aesthetic Movement period, 1860-1890. It has markings on the back “Paragon” (the factory) and “Oriental Ivory” (the glaze.) It does NOT have “England” or “Made in England” so before the 1890s.

It has a couple of chips on the back—I have picked up a few marks myself and I am not nearly as old as that dish!

Alas—yuppies started moving into workers cottages etc around city centres and prices for these sort of items shot up as the yuppies bought stuff that old to decorate their residences. Second Aesthetic Movement item I picked up years later cost $80 not 80¢! OUCH!

Very oriental, Japanese motif for the decorative elements.
