I even have gold trim on new crockery. I would prefer that it wasn't there.

Anyone can see the table is made of wood too dark to be pine. I never even mentioned the gilding on the cups etc—that is just done. I do have some really old cups where the gilding was worn off by long use.

No one ever accused the Baron of being smart.

As to Mum buying antique items  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

I am sure I mentioned before Mum’s life in her earlier years: Great Depression, WWIi and occupation, Hunger Winter 44/5 and her mother giving Mum the key to the pantry “You can say no, I can’t.” That sort of experience leads one to be pretty careful with money. Did with Mum anyway.

Some Ethiopian coffee ordered. 1 Kg of it—so how to store the coffee?

Put it in ziplock bags or the sacksucker bags and put in freezer? Be better than justy keeping the whole kilogram on a shelf in the pantry?

No breakfast today.

Coffee cup is stoneware from a famous but now sadly defunct Australian pottery. No gilding on stoneware! LOL!

I had tomato on toast - it was good.

I may have an espresso now, haven't had a coffee today.

The Tollund Man's last breakfast was a "porridge or gruel made from grains and seeds, both cultivated and wild. Approximately 40 kinds of seeds were identified, but the porridge was primarily composed of four types: barley, flax, false flax (Camelina sativa), and knotgrass. From the stage of digestion it was concluded that the man had eaten 12 to 24 hours prior to his death. Porridges were common for people of this time. Because neither meat nor fresh fruit was found in the last meal, it is suggested that the meal was eaten in winter or early spring, when these items were not available."

Anyone who did woodwork in high school knows you can stain pine to be whatever shade of darker or even red you desire.

Women who have never done formal woodworking also know this.

Mong has a cheap pine table.

All my timber furniture is Cedar or Oregon don't have anything made from pine.

Cedar is preferred material for things like wardrobes it's a natural repellant for bugs that eat clothes.
