As you say, there is a housing crisis, why would someone give up guaranteed 25% of their income rent to go private, especially if they have pets?

He didn't.

"Whereas just five years ago when I was in social housing, it was capped at 25 per cent," he said.

Tell us how you know he didn't give it up and if he didn't give it up then he was tossed out.

Once you get state housing it's permanent unless you are a really bad tenant. As JS said.

They NEVER remove anyone except the worst of the worst, even then it's only when they don't pay the rent for months that they actually kick you out.

At least that was the case in NSW. Not sure what SA's rules are like.

Why aren't you paying out on him?

But sure it's people like me that stop him keeping a home.

No. I know nothing more than the article stated about his personal circumstances.

You'll notice how accordingly, i didn't leap to judgement.

Unlike you.

Quite right and on that information it seemed very likely he was booted from state housing. IE a very bad tenant. Bad tenants are going to find it hard to get accomodation.

You made the claim, thus the onus is on you to provide the proof.

"I wonder why the guy was removed from state housing?"

So, where is the proof he was removed?

Idiot, that's a question, not a claim. Are you that bad in court defending the workers?

You are asking why he was removed.

So, I ask again: where is your proof that he was removed?

The whole article should sound an alarm for any thinking person.  472 properties and he couldn't get one?  Not likely.

You don't give up social housing unless you have alternative permanent accommodation and it's almost impossible to get kicked out.

It seems he's sharing a house now with other people because his track record is atrocious and no-one will touch him.

~

A HOUSING Trust tenant has turned his spare bedroom into a hotel room and advertised it for rent at $350 a week on a popular tourist accommodation website.

It is understood the tenant, Hayden Patterson, pays less than $100 a week in taxpayer-subsidised rent for the two-bedroom townhouse at Goodwood, but charged $65 a night for the spare bedroom.

Mr Patterson has been advertising the bedroom on the international website Airbnb, of which he has been a member since 2012, saying it can accommodate up to six guests a rate of almost $350 for a minimum of two nights.

https://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/housing-trust-tenant-investi...

In a separate case, housing trust tenant Hayden Patterson has been caught advertising a spare room in his property in Goodward - south of Adelaide - for $65 a night on tourist accommodation website AirBnB.

The advertisement further stated the bedroom could sleep up to six guests for a minimum of two nights for about $350, The Advertiser reports.

With the consent of Housing SA, trust tenants are allowed to lease out a room however they could not confirm whether permission had been granted to Mr Patterson.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2999987/The-disgraceful-pictures-tax-do...

That was in 2015 and he's been rattling around ever since and obviously didn't learn a valuable lesson because he was caught twice.  Too bad so sad.  No sympathy.

My bad...

It's not your bad at all.  You merely queried why he (most likely) was removed from state housing and the vulture(s) swooped.

It was a more than reasonable query and undeserving of attack.

You mean the 2 aqrticles reporting the same incident BO cites as being "caught twice"?

You may or may not have noticed this bit:

"With the consent of Housing SA, trust tenants are allowed to lease out a room however they could not confirm whether permission had been granted to Mr Patterson."

You have nothing other than prejudice to base your assertion that he was kicked out of public housing.

He was kicked out because he was advertising on AirBnB.  The dishonest way you virtue signal in order to attack posters you don't like is embarrassing to watch.

I don't believe anyone said he left during the housing crisis.   Roll Eyes

You don't know he was kicked out at all.

And Setanta most certainly did question why someone would leave social housing through the housing crisis.

Do you think you could go back and check for yourself? Or would you like to be spoon fed?

It does say that as a public housing tenant you are allowed to rent out a room though.
