Idiot British James Heappey - Defence Minister - downplays
lethal depleted Uranium ammunition to be used in Ukraine -
he doesn't know what he's talking about.
Depleted Uranium is still highly radioactive.
It can measure between 100,000 and 1 million counts per minute
with a Geiger counter.
It's not what people want mixed with the soil in Ukraine -
it will end up in our food.
It should not ever be used in warfare and is in some ways a war crime.

That means this cylinder, though depleted, is still the most radioactive thing I have in my collection. It represent about 140 microCuries of total activity (about 300,000,000 disintegrations per minute). A Geiger counter held up to the side of it will read about 100,000 counts per minute.

The people of the world are sick and tired of wars in Europe.
There is always some madman running a country who wants to start another war.
This is the first time when we have had nuclear weapons on the table.
If not that we now have depleted Uranium ammunition to poison the soil forever.

Some common nuclear waste half lives:

Plutonium 239 half life    24,110 years.
Americium 241 half life       432 years
Radium 226    Half life    1,600 years
Uranium 236 Half life 15 million years.
Plutonium 244 Half life 80 million years
Uranium 235 Half life 704 million years
Uranium 238 half life    4.5 billion years

So – depleted Uranium is mostly U238 which will be around forever –
a half life of 4.5 billion years.

People (especially children) in Iraq and Serbia are still dying in large numbers from cancer they got from NATO's use of depleted uranium ammunition.

Nonsense -
it is Uranium that has the isotope U235 partially removed - from 0.7% to 0.3%.

It's still highly radioactive.
Normal background is about 40 to 75 counts per minute on a Geiger counter -
depleted Uranium is measuring 100,000 counts per minute as per above.
