From the CDC site, 15 March 2023:

Reinfection with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, means
an individual was infected, recovered, and then later became infected
again. An individual can be reinfected multiple times. Reinfections are
most often mild, but severe illness can occur. People who are reinfected
can also spread the virus to others.

After infection with SARS-CoV-2, people’s immune systems respond to
protect them from SARS-CoV-2, including by creating antibodies. This
immune response can provide a high level of protection against
infection with the same or other SARS-CoV-2 variants for several
months, but this protection decreases over time.

As the virus evolves, new variants with the ability to evade a person’s
existing immunity can appear and lead to an increased risk for
reinfection.

Further thoughts...

People like Sir Lastnail appear to have the wrong idea about
having been infected once with SARS-CoV-2 automatically
"guaranteeing" longer-term immunity—both to existing viral
variants—and also to future, possibly more virulent variants.

We don't know what mutations of the SARS-CoV-2 are likely
in the future, so the most prudent course of action is to maintain
one's vaccination status with boosters, or, if you're not yet
vaccinated do so now.

Actually, I'm already used to being about $40 out of pocket every time I visit my GP (which isn't often these days) because he doesn't bulk bill and never has.
