There has been much talk of the deep state cabal:
Trump will obliterate the deep state...
That could well be true, but before he did that, he'd need to be
the US president—and obviously that's never going to happen.
Only 58% of Republicans currently favour Trump as their choice for
nominee, an uptick from 48% which was reported in a Reuters/Ipsos poll
released on Monday. A Reuters/Ipsos survey, which was released on
Thursday, reported 49% of all Americans believe that it was appropriate
for prosecutors to file the first criminal case against the former president.
That 58% must be a major concern for the GOP.
I think there's little doubt that criminal defendant Trump
will be the GOP candidate in 2024.
But how do they expect him to win the
general election?
Where is he going to pick up millions of extra voters from?
He lost by 3 million votes in 2016
He lost by 7 million votes in 2020.
Since then he's been arrested, and is facing many more indictments in the future.
Do Republicans honestly think his track record will win him
extra votes?
His popularity is going down with the general public, not up.
Sure, he's as popular as he's always been with his cult members, but other normal people have had enough of him.
In 2016 they said:
"How bad can he be? Let's vote him in and see how he goes".
In 2020 they said:
"Okay, that experiment failed miserably. I'm voting sensibly this year".
In 2024 they'll say:
"We know how bad he was before, and he's only getting worse. Plus, he's a criminal defendant. He won't be getting my vote".
