OR Orthodox Easter if you like....

Yep....it’s on. AGAIN!

This Friday is considered the REAL Good Friday (😩)

This Sunday is considered the REAL Resurrection (😩😩)

This is Australia where we celebrate multiculturalism and diversity (😩😩😩)

Anyone else here celebrating/not celebrating Easter this coming week because of their Orthodox heritage?

If so let’s share our traditions. May as well. i

I bought Greek balaclava yesterday from Aldi’s.
My Greek friend over the other side of Melbourne, would make me baclava! It’s a very dense nutty sweet.

I didn't celebrate Easter last weekend, so I can't see why I would bother this weekend.

No, don’t celebrate Easter either. But had a lovely conversation with fave niece and great niece.

Might visit the big smoke Saturday and buy a couple extension cords, one internal, one for external use. Then spend the rest of Orthodox Easter sanding the paint where two plasterboards meet, taping up the join, plastering, sanding and painting: primer plus two coats a really nice just-yellow color (one of the Haynes warm whites range.)

The sanding, taping, plastering, sanding has to be done for EVERY plasterboard join in the house!

Yes!!!! 👌👌👌👌👌

We’re getting ready to dye the eggs different colours.

(For our kids it’s really all about remembering how they helped their grandma dye eggs during Easter...so it’s important I carry on the tradition).

I’ll take some shots of how our eggs turned out.

Happy Greek Easter everyone !!!

Except it’s technically Orthodox Easter.

And we’re NOT Orthodox.

So why are we even bothering to celebrate it?

Well that’s a good question!

My family consists of mixed even exotic European cultures all blended together in beautiful Australia.

As Protestant Christians we’re well aware of the fact that ANY Easter date/celebration taking place today (or last week for that matter) has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus Christ.

In fact the 2 (incorrect) dates assigned for Easter reflect nothing more than yet another well entrenched division btwn the Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church. And all this took place many centuries ago. On the other side of the globe.

So bringing this topic back to Australia and 2023... I guess we as a family celebrate Easter TWICE a year because for us Easter is all about celebrating life and God’s love towards us as mere mortals. And as such we  choose to celebrate it as many times as we like.

Cheers.i
