Won't be as good as the June 20th 1974 eclipse was from here in Perth.

I was 16 years old at the time working in an office in St. Georges Terrace in the city and I remember this eclipse vividly.

It was very dark outside at and around the time of maximum eclipse.

Attached images were at 1:15pm June 20th 1974 in Perth at maximum eclipse. Moon was moving roughly from left to right in relation to the Sun.

Is that a CME from almost the south pole of the sun?

Looks like it although I don't believe the images of the Sun's corona or sunspots are 'real time' images in Stellarium, today or in 1974.

I'm pretty sure they're just 'effects' which they've added to show what they look like.

Well, the "big" day has arrived. Solar Eclipse day.  Cool

Here's sunrise in Perth this morning (right now actually - 6:45am).

I've removed the atmosphere from the image otherwise the Moon cannot be seen, the Moon is moving roughly from top to bottom in relation to the Sun.

Partial eclipse starts at 10am (Perth time) and ends at 12:45pm (Perth time). Maximum eclipse is at 11am (Perth time).

I'll have a look outside at around 11am to see how "dark" it gets here, probably won't be much different to a slightly cloudy day.

The orange line in the image is the Ecliptic, by the way.

11am here in Perth and it's about the time of maximum eclipse.

It is noticeably dimmer outside and the sky is a slightly deeper blue than usual.

I did try to make a pinhole camera to view the eclipse, it did sort of work but the image was tiny. However, I did see the part of the Moon covering the Sun with it.

I was going to attach another Stellarium image to show the eclipse as it looks from here right now but I already did that on Monday.

Edit: 11:21 is the 'official' time of maximum eclipse here in Perth (right now) but it doesn't really look any dimmer outside than it did at 11.

It looked a bit darker than normal when I went outside, with a strange yellow tint to the sky.

I noticed a lot of birds were on the ground, walking around slowly and not making any noise - looks like it confused them a bit.

It's a lot brighter now Greg even though the Moon is still 'covering' about a quarter of the Sun (probably a bit less than that actually).

This was a few minutes ago (12:18pm Perth time).

The Moon will have completely 'cleared' the Sun at 12:45pm Perth time.

I was at the doctors about 15 minutes before the eclipse was to start. By the time I got over town for another appointment, there was no real change to the sky. I got to the shopping centre to do some business. Then I went out and drove home. By 2:30, the sunlight seemed to have dimmed a little. As if it was a little cloudy, but the sun was shining still. I will watch the news tonight to see what the story was like for Exmouth.

Well, as the sun sets here in Perth (5:46pm) it's time for my final Stellarium image.

The Moon is moving to the right and slightly upwards in relation to the Sun in this image.

The atmosphere has been removed, of course.

There may be a very thin crescent Moon visible this time tomorrow but it will probably be lost in the light of the Sun even after the Sun sets because of the angle that the Moon is moving against the background of stars in relation to the horizon but there should definitely be a crescent Moon visible after sunset on Saturday evening.
