One relationship we ought to talk more about :

The relationship about how WE relate to OURSELVES.

This subject was recently discussed in one of my Facebook Groups. Here is an excerpt of that conversation. I found it very interesting and insightful.

What Is Self-Worth?

Self-worth is based on the knowledge that we have inherent value as individuals, regardless of our achievements or external factors. It is the belief that we are deserving of love, respect, and happiness. It is an essential aspect of our well-being, as it shapes how we see ourselves, how we interact with others, and how we approach life.

It is shaped by our experiences, relationships, and the messages that we receive from society. People with high self-worth are confident, assertive, and able to set healthy boundaries. They are also more resilient in the face of challenges and setbacks.

Self-Worth, Self-Esteem & Self-Confidence

Self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence are closely related concepts that interact to shape our overall sense of self.

Self-confidence is the belief in our abilities to handle challenges and succeed. It is the trust that we have in ourselves to take on new tasks and achieve our goals. Self-confidence is based on our past experiences of success and failure, as well as our perception of our abilities and skills.

Whereas self-esteem is our evaluation of ourselves overall. This leads to a sense of self-worth and confidence in our abilities.

Why Is Self-Worth Important?

Having a strong sense of self-worth is crucial for our mental and emotional health. When we believe in our own value and worth, we are more likely to take care of ourselves, set healthy boundaries, and pursue our goals and dreams.

We are also more likely to build positive relationships with others and avoid unhealthy or abusive relationships. In contrast, low self-worth can lead to negative self-talk, self-doubt, and a lack of confidence. It can also make us vulnerable to toxic relationships and behaviours.

How to improve self-worth?

Improving self-worth takes time and effort, but it is worth it in the long run. Here are some strategies that can help:

Practice self-compassion

Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer to a good friend. Be gentle with yourself and recognize that you are doing the best you can.

Challenge negative self-talk

Notice when you are engaging in negative self-talk and challenge those thoughts. Replace them with positive affirmations and reminders of your strengths and accomplishments.

Set healthy boundaries

Identify your needs and values and communicate them clearly to others. Say "no" when necessary and prioritise your own well-being.

Focus on your strengths

Identify your unique talents, skills, and qualities and focus on developing them further. Celebrate your accomplishments and take pride in your achievements.

Practice self-care

Take care of your physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet, and get enough sleep. Practice mindfulness, meditation, or other relaxation techniques.

Surround yourself with positivity

Seek out positive and supportive people who lift you up and encourage you. Avoid people who bring you down or criticise you.

In conclusion, self-worth is an essential aspect of our well-being and happiness. By practicing self-compassion, challenging negative self-talk, setting healthy boundaries, focusing on our strengths, practicing self-care, and surrounding ourselves with positivity, we can improve our sense of self- worth and live a more fulfilling life. Remember, self-worth is not something that can be given or taken away by others - it comes from within us.

All of that got knocked out of me when I was conscripted into the Army ... The government treated us as if we were worthless POS

Had I adopted all that's in your OP, I would have first considered my "self worth" and "confidence", and not filled out the Registration form that I had to get from the post office

The Registration form is how they got your name and date of birth before the ballot took place

Sending in that Registration form was consenting to, and condoning their "slave" like laws, and the two year jail sentence they tacked onto those laws

The ones who had self worth and confidence were those who burned their draft cards, I should have done that also

What gave me a sense of self worth was witnessing Holt drowning, McMahon getting the flick, and idiot politicians giving up on Vietnam, they couldn't win. Karma got them for imposing that two year jail sentence

Worthless politicians treat others as being worthless

It took years before I got my confidence back, still a bit shaky and I missed out on the better things in life, but after discovering the Feast and Famine Variable, my self worth couldn't be stronger

Yes, I'm a member

It's a little disappointing though, they're placing emphasis on tea shirts, hats and marching on ANZAC Day. The fight for a Health Gold card has been met with the Labor party's half-brain "Yeah, we'll see what we can do" ... meaning they're not going to do anything. They're waiting for us to die off so then they can spruik a eulogy which will cost nothing compared to the issuing of Gold cards. I got a White cards out of them, but for me, it's only good to get my toe nails cut by a podiatrist .. doing it by myself, my nails are that tough and awkward to get at, I have to use a Dremel handheld grinder. Otherwise, the White card is for things that don't happen to you

NashoFairGo has really come too late, but I honor Geoff Parkes for starting it just the same. However, younger generation politicians wouldn't know what it was about, it happened too far back for them to understand, and they'd be hesitant to condemn the bastardry of their own parliamentary predecessors, in both parties

I thank God for the wisdom to never vote for them, I can at least go to my grave with that satisfaction. I studied the UN Charter and there's nothing in there that rejects military conscription, done deliberately I'm sure, to appease nations that might not have joined the UN had the Charter rejected military conscription. The UN is hypocritical to the max

Coming back to self-worth, we should never bow to bastards, as I did in the sixties, to corrupt politicians and cops, bribe money changed hands like nobody's business, and right at the top. Self-worth should have been the reason why I should never have filled out and sent that Registration form, because all I was doing was condoning all that political corruption and bribery. Then the illicit drug trade took hold, and still exists today. Realizing self-worth means getting away from all that crap and never practice it, none of it, and especially never voting for it
