Massive fire at fuel site in Russian-occupied Crimea after suspected drone strike

A fuel tank is on fire in the Crimean port city of Sevastopol, the Russian-backed governor of the city Mikhail Razvozhaev said on Telegram early Saturday.

Razvozhaev said the fire has spread to around 1,000 square meters and that initial reports indicate it was caused by a drone.

The fuel tank is in the Cossack Bay neighborhood, he said, adding response teams are working on site.

“It is a class 4 fire. Information about casualties is being updated,” he wrote.

Fuel tank ablaze in Sevastopol, official says apparent drone attack

(Reuters) - A fuel tank was ablaze in the Crimean port city of Sevastopol in what appeared to be a drone strike, the Moscow-installed governor said on Saturday.

"According to preliminary information, the fire was caused by a drone hit," Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev wrote on the Telegram messaging app.

Sevastopol, on the Crimean peninsula that Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014, has come under repeated air attacks since Russia's full-fledged invasion of its neighbour in February 2022. Russian officials have blamed the attacks on Ukraine.

The Ukrainian military did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday. Kyiv almost never publicly claims responsibility for attacks inside Russia or on Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine.

Razvozhaev said no one was hurt in Saturday's fire.

"The situation is under the control of our firefighters and all operative services," he wrote. "Since the volume of fuel is large, it will take time to localise the fire."

Military unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) fly at average speeds of 151km/h.
Putin's missiles do 17,000 km/h.
Russian guy at same old boring dull screen for 48 hours a week, #(^@)D^$~! at low pay and corrupt incompetent bosses, speed is around half an hour to glance at the same old bor....yikes!! shoot it ! there ..it's ..

The British and French prepared for the formal siege of Sevastopol. Each army needed a secure base on the Black Sea, through which to bring in their heavy siege guns, ammunition and supplies and equipment needed to maintain the siege lines.

The British selected the fishing harbour of Balaclava, leaving the French to move to the left of the siege lines and establish their base in the small port of Kamiesh, on the south western tip of the Crimea.

I think Ukraine wants to cut off the supply lines to the Donbas etc by taking Crimea first.
Maybe they think they can hold those other areas and inflict a humiliating defeat for Russia in Crimea -
then once weakened take the rest of the stolen land until they have it all?
I hope they get the job done.

You heard it first from me.
