Should have seen Socks at the lure coursing yesterday!

A really fast run, 100% concentrated on the lure—three plastic shopping bags attached to a continuous wire stretched to a course with pegs and pulleys, all connected to a motor.

Blazing speed, 100% concentrated on the lure. Got to the end, wire stopped, VRROOOMMMM comes Socks a second later, grabs the last bag with such a strong bite the bag is pretty much ripped off the wire by a ferocious bite. Next time I went to have a look at another dog having a go—third bag is a new one. LOL!


After Socks’ run iI was told by those that know—great run, much improved, 100% concentrated on the bags. Concentration on the lure a big factor in judging how well a dog does in a trial.

While terriers, kelpies etc etc mutts have a go, lure coursing hounds—greyhounds, whippets, wolfhounds and staghounds like Socks have a huge advantage—they can see the bags, the other non coursing breeds if the lure is pulled a bit too fast they can’t see the bags. These are fun runs—if a non-coursing dog loses the lure the lure is wound back so the chase can resume. Terriers etc track—follow by smell—mainly.

I am going to try Socks out for tracking—the more outside activities the better for Socks.

I am having a 1800mm colorbond fence installed, once that is in place Socks can spend more time outside. Tomorrow—we go back to the beach for a nice big run for Socks.

Socks is a beautiful dog with a sweet temperament. I am so lucky that the two British Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppies were already taken when I had my appointment at the RSPCA shelter at Lonsdale. I am so, so chuffed to have a wonderful, beautiful sweet dog like Socks, my god! I pity those without a dog.

Come summer with El Nino conditions Syd & Melb fry, I am nice and warm with 12°C nights that let you sleep.
