Hello - what was racist?

If you even have to ask that question Bobby, then it's more than
obvious that you have no concept of what the words "racist" or
"racism" even mean in the 21st century.

You seem not to appreciate that a white man wearing blackface in
1922 was considered by the predominantly white American
population as perfectly normal—and clever or funny. Or that
African-Americans were largely employed only in menial jobs that
were seen as beneath the dignity of their white bosses, and the
wider society.

You might like to check out this site to appraise yourself of just
how offensively blacks were treated 100 years ago in the US, in
particular. Lynchings of blacks were still occurring as late as 1939
in the US... amazingly only 6 years before I was born!

         Black Americans 1929-1941.

And now, a century later in Australia, Stan Grant has been subjected,
covertly but often openly, to a similar form of racism—simply
because of his race.      And yes, I know he was attacked primarily
for his colonisation comments during the Coronation broadcast
on the ABC, but had similar comments been made by a white,
Anglo Australia, then the outrage would've been not a fraction of
that generated by a black man.

Lisa Miller, if you want to be taken as a "serious journalist" stop laughing like a drunken schoolgirl every time a news story mentions "your Queenland" - and leave a few openings in your rather crass dialogue, should anyone else want to get a word in, edgeways.

And get a light for your bedroom - or a full-time wardrobe coordinator - as I'm sure we BOTH know what a disaster it can be, getting an outfit together at 3AM

the era of 1950's black and white TV.

If you think Grant married Tracey Holmes because she was white or

Well, I'd say this qualifies as the most reprehensibly racist
comment we're going to see today. And this from someone
who claims that their loathing for Grant has nothing to do
with his aboriginality!

And of course, we all know that this sort of racism is only
ever voiced from behind the anonymity of a white keyboard
warrior's desk. Given the chance to say this sort of thing
face to face with an Aboriginal person—such as Grant—all
we'd hear would be an awkward silence.
