Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said Thursday he would prioritize pardoning “victims” of “political targeting,” potentially including the defendants involved with the January 6 attacks on the capitol, a move that could alter sentences like the 18 years handed to Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes Thursday.

Speaking on the podcast Clay & Buck’s the day after he announced his presidential bid, DeSantis said the FBI and Department of Justice have been “weaponized” to target certain political groups, after he was asked if he would consider pardoning the January 6 defendants and former President Donald Trump.

From the start of his presidency, he would be “aggressive about issuing pardons” to groups he believes have been politically targeted, such as pro-life demonstrators, he said.

While some cases may involve a true violation of the law, DeSantis said he believes there is an “uneven application of justice” in many incidents.........

This echo's what many Americans have been saying for many, many months. I think Millions of Americans will strongly like these statements regarding pardoning.....

Pardons for rioters?

Trump said during a recent CNN town hall that if elected to a second term
he would pardon many rioters who were convicted for their roles in the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

Though he said he would not be able to pardon all January 6 rioters,
Trump vowed to pardon “a large portion of them.”

Everything RonDa is saying now is to be mini me Trump for the base. Just see how quick he dumps this stuff if he becomes the Rep Nominee.

This type of thing is loved by 35% of the base and is needed for him to win nomination however in the election it would be deeply unpopular with the vast majority and an anchor around his neck. He would quickly dump the idea in an election campaign or guarantee a loss.

Gallup polling found that 31% of Americans identified as Democrats, 25% identified as Republicans, and 41% as Independent.

DeSantis has just said the stupidest thing in his political career. Republicans need to think long and hard before they pardon these miscreants. This idea is reminiscence of the disregard for the benefits of the Republic that Democrats showed in 1860. But these criminals have stated they want to bring on civil war. They don't care what that means.

Incorrect. I think it's a smart move. Ron D will pardon the small fish first, then he'll pardon the shark.

We'll have the big fella's Georgia and New York trials on by next year's primaries - maybe even the federal charges. It should make for a fascinating primary debate to see poor old Ron Desanctimonious getting chewed up by the guy he plans to pardon.
