Yeah, we do. White people won. Then it was up to white people to either save or ignore indigenous Australians from their own peril. The white people chose. Many indigenous people are whingeing about getting something for nothing. They are always free to live a traditional livelihood on one of the reservations that make up about 15% of Australia.

It came about in 1963, when his mother went to police in desperation, seeking help.

She was escaping domestic violence, and took her five children with her.

Mr Sloan said his mother found accommodation for herself and her two eldest daughters with family in Shepparton, but could not bring her three younger boys with her.

She approached welfare groups, hoping they might help her with temporary accommodation for the whole family, but had no luck.

As a last resort, she asked the police.

"And as a result of that we were made wards of the state," Mr Sloan said.

So, as the result of asking for help in seeking shelter and protection, the three children were made wards of the state. What was the alternative? Living in dire poverty and homeless (with no protection). FFS, Brian. Being a 'stolen' generation does not seem all that bad, now does it?

No they weren't.  The Police sought them out and took them from their parents, Unsub.  They were usually removed from camps and homes. They broke the hearts of the parents and the kids and prevented them ever meeting again. Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Yet they complain all the time.  They were mistreated, raped and prevented from seeing their parents ever again.  The authorities could have provided them but as they were regarded as non-citizens they were treated like fauna.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

The same happened to white children made wards of the state.

And yes many of them were removed from homes because of neglect & poverty issues including not being able to support or sustain children.

Where's your empathy for them?

Were they not affected & traumatised because of what happened to them?

Why is it that it only matters if you were Aboriginal?

Piss off you sanctimonious old cockroll.

Gnads has a very good point Brian.
Are you trying to push the 'Black Dog' emotional racist blackmail on white people?
What about all the yellow people in the world and other races that have experienced the same of children taken from a neglectful parenting bordering on 'child abuse' or totally child abusive?

Being a white child, removed to become "wards of the state" was very different compared to an Indigenous child who suffered the same fate.  The Indigenous children were denied any contact with their families, they were denied their culture, their religion, their essence of whom they were, where as that was not denied to White kids.   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Authorities took the indigenous children (with caucasian heritage) from the parents of those that could not look after their children. Full-blooded indigenous children would probably have been ignored for a long time.

Speaking as a person who has been mistreated in childhood, I do not really care about the rescued from destitution children (who were mistreated, raped, etc.) that grew up with enough resources and privileges to be able to afford the right to complain/whinge about their lot in life.

Think back to the time between 1890 and 1970, if you can. You can't? Oh, right. You have been basing your assumptions about the hard life of indigenous people on the way that they were not getting the modern conveniences we have now. And the society that the indigenous grew up in around other Australians is also the one that every Australian grew up in during that period.

Which makes the excuse they were removed because of cirumstance just that an excuse, Unsub.  Full blood kids were ignored and left to the designs (supposedly) of the Indigenous parents which were exactly the same as were the half-blood kids.  You have to eventually face the facts, these kids were removed without permission by the Police and other authorities.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Rubbish ... you patronising old fool. You definitely are a big part of the problem in always making it about race & having more excuses that Aboriginals should & have to be treated differently to any other Australian.

After "race" was removed from the Constitution in 1967.......dumbphucks like you & the Albanese Govt. want to re-insert "race" back into it.

Complete idiots.

"Race" wasn't removed from the Constitution in 1967.  It is still there.  When did you ever read the Australian Constitution?  I bet never.  Section III(XXV) still holds:

Quote:
25. Provisions as to races disqualified from voting

For the purposes of the last section, if by the law of any State all persons of any race are disqualified from voting at elections for the more numerous House of the Parliament of the State, then, in reckoning the number of the people of the State or of the Commonwealth, persons of that race resident in that State shall not be counted.

[Source]

What happened in 1967 was a change to the clause that stated the Commonwealth was to have no power over Indigenous Australians to have power over them:

Quote:
Section 51 (xxvi) was amended by the Constitution Alteration (Aboriginals) 1967, and previously read as follows:

"(xxvi) the people of any race, other than the aboriginal race in any State, for whom it is deemed necessary to make special laws;"

It now reads:

Quote:
Section 51 (xxvi)  the people of any race for whom it is deemed necessary to make special laws;

The only solution is the Aborassic Park Homeland and Gondwanamo Bay for the dissidents, terrorists and recalcitrants.

Only by a true separation and enforced boundaries will the two nations in one ever peacefully co-exist.

Out of sight - out of mind .... no social security, no nothing, no special healthcare and flying doctor flights etc, instead of sucking the blood out of royalties they can negotiate their own deals with the international parasites without Big Mama Government standing there to ensure fair play, no costs for prisons and extra policing needed to control their actions, the comancheros can run booze into The Res by the semi-load to help them on The Road to Extinction.

Let them do things their way with a goanna skin and a stick.... think how much of a saving on the economy and budget.... how many billions extra for hospitals, roads, infrastructure and so forth...

It doesn't mention any specific race......it applies to all races

now you want a specific race to have a specific section applicable only to them enshrined back into the Constitution.

That's racist/exclusionary & divisive.

I stand by what I said about you.

Quote:
Section 51 (xxvi)  the people of any race for whom it is deemed necessary to make special laws;

[Source]

It doesn't mention any specific race......it applies to all races

now you want a specific race to have a specific section applicable only to them enshrined back into the Constitution.

That's racist/exclusionary & divisive.

I stand by what I said about you.

You stated that the concept of "Race" had been removed from the Constitution, I proved that it had not.  Admit your error.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Special laws could be favourable to that 'race' ...  affirmative action in the PS etc has already done that for ethnics as race groups  (now look at the joint) - funny how people cry 'principle' over one POV they disagree with, and then throw it out the window when it comes to their favourite one...

Well - they would, wouldn't they?  If they claim pain on pain for generations, then King Albo, in his Madness, might give them another handout...

They need to Get Over It!!

https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/australia/at-what-cost-nathan-maynard-explores-th...

My theatre - one of the many 'owners' who never get a cent.. play about identifying as an Aborigine - clearly the benefits are flowing in as we speak and the sorts of entrepreneurs like Pascoe can see billions just over the horizon.  Says he's been accepted by the Yuin - never heard that one.... his Cornish ancestry speaks otherwise so maybe they see something in having him ....

Needs to be cleaned up this identifying garbage .........  Jesus - my uncle the copper once said I had legs like a Blackfulla - I must be one, eh?  Want me claim, bro............ where's my 44,000 sq km and $450m?

Aboriginals were given the right to vote before the 1967 referendum...

in which sections of the Constitution were amended by removing certain wording thus Aboriginals were considered the same as any Australian citizen regarding inclusion in the census.(that removed the deferential of race)

Even QLD gave Aboriginal people the right to vote in 1965.

Quote:
Campaigning by FCAA and others led to the federal government establishing the House of Representatives Select Committee on Voting Rights of Aborigines in April 1961. The committee travelled widely throughout the country and interviewed 324 witnesses, almost half of whom were Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

In its report, delivered late in 1961, the committee estimated that about 30,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people had been denied the vote as a result of discriminatory legislation in the Northern Territory, Western Australia and Queensland. It recommended that all Indigenous people be given the right to vote at federal elections.

The government responded by introducing a Bill ‘to give to Aboriginal Natives of Australia the right to Enrol and to Vote as Electors of the Commonwealth’.

Voting rights for Indigenous people enacted

The Commonwealth Electoral Act 1962 received assent on 21 May 1962.

It granted all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people the option to enrol and vote in federal elections.

Enrolment was not compulsory for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, unlike other Australians. Once enrolled, however, voting was compulsory.

How the states and territories responded

Shortly after the federal government passed the 1962 Act, Western Australia and the Northern Territory granted Aboriginal people the right to vote.

Queensland established a committee to investigate ‘the promotion of the well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Queensland’. Towards the end of 1965 the Queensland parliament passed an Act to extend voting rights to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Compulsory enrolment and voting for Indigenous Australians

It was not until 1984 that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people gained full equality with other electors under the Commonwealth Electoral Amendment Act 1983. This Act made enrolling to vote at federal elections compulsory for Indigenous Australians.

So from 1965(when QLD passed voting rights) up to 1984 all Aboriginal & TSI's had non compulsory enrolment & voting rights.

How was this a denial of full equality? They had more choice.

Today many Australians believe our system should be like the US one where enrolling & voting in elections is not compulsory.

Again I stand by my statement that Albosneses Morons & numpties like you want to reinstate an enshrined amendment to the Constitution which discriminates in favour of one race over all others.

It's a very divisive poor idea.

But here you openly push the Aboriginal barrow on every issue. That's demonstrated.

As dumb as Albanese saying that for the Labor govt to equally fund the "No" campaign would make them racists.

because Albanese(I voted for him to be leader in opposition as well, all members of the Labor Party got a vote between him & Shorten) is lying to the people about the details & affects of the Voice.

I'd say - like pretty much everything else related to Aborigines - most people have heard enough of it and have turned their ears off.

That in itself is dangerous because it gives the governments the opportunity to sneak something in behind your back without your hearing of it.....

The duty of government is to provide security for its people - and government must also ensure that security is in place against itself, given the extreme imbalance in power and resources between government and the ordinary folk.  Those resources must never be utilised in attacking or oppressing the people, since government itself is the greatest danger to democracy and to the well-being of the ordinary folk .... always has been - always will be.

You must forever be on your guard against the true import of what any government of any stamp is doing at any given time - you cannot afford to stop up your ears or close your eyes..... your opportunities to act as a stakeholder in most issues are already limited enough without your adding to that deficit.

When was the last time you received timely notice to offer a viewpoint in a major issue in the area in which you live?  You must NEVER permit government to specify who is and who is not a 'stakeholder'.

Incorrect phuktard .... the colour of their skin is now multi hued from black to white.

What they think they are entitled to regardless of traditional/cultural upbringing or predominantly non Aboriginal ancestry is a part of the crux of the matter.

Albo-nese misguided beliefs makes what he's saying a lie.

Unless he can 100% explain how the whole Voice & it's place in the constitution will work .....

he's lying.

That he says the govt would be racist to equally fund the "no" campaign .... is a lie.

You seem to have real problems with a non-expression of opinion, don't you, Gnads?  Our electoral system is hidden votes and I stick to that.  My opinion is hidden from Racists like you.  Tough titties.  I generally support the ALP but not always, I have voted National, once or twice in the past.  I'll likely never vote Tories again after they lied to me.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Grin You think? You truly are a clown.

I'm not asking you to tell me what you vote on the day.

But here you openly push the Aboriginal barrow on every issue. That's demonstrated.

So in that I already know what you will vote.

You label everyone who doesn't hold similar views to you as to Aboriginals as racist.

I label people Racist because of their attitudes, and what they say, about Indigenous Australians.  You hold them in contempt because of their skin colour and their culture.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Oh, dearie, dearie, me, you really are being rather silly.  It always has to be a, "Lie" when someone says something you disagree with, now doesn't it?  How silly you are.  The ALP leader is saying what he believes is true, that doesn't make it a lie.  What that makes it is a mistruth at worst.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Incorrect phuktard .... the colour of their skin is now multi hued from black to white.

Yeah, sure, sure, Racist.  Who cares what colour a person's skin is, except a Racist?  As far as I am concerned, a White person can claim to be an Indigenous person.  It doesn't matter what colour a person's skin is, what matters is their ancestry.  You can have Black White people and White Black people and all shades in between.

Not funding the NO case is racist..................... against those deemed to be Whites...... most of us wouldn't GAF - we're Indifferents - until slapped with a dead smoked trout left to age for ten days or so .......

How many times must we "accept it"?  Every time they want another pay day?

Get a life is my advice... Albo is ensuring those days are coming to a close by bringing this entire Two Nations thing to a head....

That was his plan, BTW - that way he gets to blame either side or both sides at whim and come out smelling like a rose....

We need a new form of government here.... the old one clearly doesn't work.

The reasons invariably given by the purveyors of the "No" vote are usually Racist at the heart of them.  Just like the criticisms of Stan Grant are concerned with his skin colour rather than his sentiments.

Not enough Aboriginal children are removed from their toxic families and communities and so they grow up and become toxic adults themselves.

Tiny menaces, helpless police and no solution
It’s 8pm in Alice Springs and a group of children are about to steal a car and lead police on a dangerous chase. After being caught they are immediately returned to a ‘responsible adult’, only to continue to reoffend.

It’s 8pm and the dust is settling across the ranges of Alice Springs when inside the town’s industrial area a group of kids arrive at the Pickles Auctions car yard.

They’re about to steal a car and lead police on a dangerous chase – an all-too-familiar scene here, where children as young as 10 are caught behind the wheel and immediately returned to a “responsible adult” – only to continue to reoffend.

Dozens of cars in the yard are protected by a 2m-high fence topped with razor wire, but the kids have their eyes on one in particular. It’s a Toyota Rav 4 they’ve stolen once before.

The first time ended badly – the car smashed up and ultimately hauled into the car yard, where it was written off by the insurance company.

But the car is drivable – and the kids still have the keys.

Jumping the razor wire fence, they climb into the SUV and drive it headlong into the heavy metal gate. It takes seven attempts to get through.
..
Just before 11pm, the boys abandon the vehicle outside K-Mart.

“With precision and skill, police located and apprehended four youths, aged between 10 and 13,” police say in a statement the following day.

The two 11-year-olds and the 10-year-old are conveyed to their homes and “handed over to a responsible adult”.

The 13-year-old, who was charged with theft, driving a motor vehicle without consent and damage to property, appears before a court the following afternoon. It’s his first time before the court. He sits there, apparently bored, running his hands through his hair. He does his best to avoid eye contact with anyone in the room as a police officer stands beside him.

In applying for bail, the court hears there have been three domestic disturbances at his proposed bail address within the last month.

His family and another family are also having a dispute.

The following day, he withdraws his bail application. He’d rather stay in jail than live at an alternative bail address in a remote community far removed from Alice Springs.

On average, there were 39 vehicles stolen every month in Alice Springs last year. Many of these vehicles ended up abandoned in the desert after they had been taken for a joyride or used in a ram-raid – often at a liquor store.

Far from being the Stolen Generation, those Aborigines who h save been removed should be called the Rescued Generation.
Language matters. 'Stolen Generation'  misrepresents and falsifies reality in 1984 - style NewSpeak.

Voting is compulsory for Aboriginals, someone said in this thread

So I wonder who they vote for ... do they vote for the same mangy parties that stole their kids? The ALP and the Coalition?

Language matters. 'Stolen Generation'  misrepresents and falsifies reality in 1984 - style NewSpeak.

I don't think it matters much these days. The Abos asked for an apology and they got it, from a Labor government, who claimed they represented all Australians

Labor at least admitted it stole Aboriginal children ... We've just got to make sure they never do that again, while they are decaying away with rigor mortis, past their use-by date

The apology is itself a sham.

An apology is essentially, fundamentally, a MUTUAL interaction.

I am not aware of ANY Abo organisation, tribal chief, minister, Big Man, whatever actually ACCEPTING the apology.

If an apology is not accepted then it is not an apology.  When will Abos accept the apology? Never.
All the activists, the Mayos, Thorpes etc, etc would be instantly out of the trough, unemployed and without an income, a platform, a reason to exist and agitate.

So the apology will NEVER be actually ACCEPTED.

Jon Tippett KC, the Northern Territory’s leading criminal barrister, says putting men on alcohol and family violence programs while they’re in prison is a waste of time because the alcoholic repeated wife-basher is in an unrealistic environment where he can neither drink nor bash women.

“It’s silly. You’re teaching them about something they have no access to,” Tippett says. “There’s no alcohol in prison. There’s no wife. An addict that goes in comes out an addict. Same with domestic violence. How do you deal with behavioural change with men that mostly cannot read or write, spend 23 hours in a cell and where everyone else is in for the same thing?

“You can’t teach him not to do it in jail. Men who beat Aboriginal women do not face disapproval within their own communities. They’re not stripped of their position on the local council for beating up their wife. They’re not made an example of. It’s not culturally part of a taboo.”
...
Tippett says it is time for brave people to try new things and to be stern. And to be prepared to fail, and to then try other things.

“It’s going to be a tough one,” he says. “Where there’s lack of parental control or parental interest, young people may have to be in prison. Ten-year-old kids may have to be put in an environment where they’re fed and schooled.

“It’s all very well for parents in Palmerston or out in communities to scream about their kids being taken away. But you, parents, are not sending them to school. You are not feeding them. You are not bathing them or clothing them. They have scabies. You are not engaging in their health care. They are below weight and their cognitive abilities have suffered because you are not looking after them.

“It’s a choice. Either you look after them, or somebody else will. We may do that reluctantly. But these children are entitled to an upbringing in a first-world country that gives them a crack at life. If you’re not going to do it, mum and dad, then we are.”

Thank you, "Stolen Generation", you have condemned Aboriginal kids to lives that are ‘solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short’.

Not when it becomes just another annual event of some group suddenly requiring payout. It sort of tends to pale towards unreality with each passing year... just when everyone, at first bite, thought it was a fair settlement - all the realities come out including today's figures - and then every year there is a new demand for money.

Time to just cut it all off.

Time to just cut it all off.  AND start addressing the full issues of neglect, abuse and everything else.

Just heartbreaking that the sentiment thus displayed in this thread still exist in an educated Australia.

Thankfully, they are dying out. It's very sad that the people expressing them haven't evolved with the times.

I sincerely wish that i never reach a stage in my life in which i hold so firm to my beliefs that i am not open to accepting new ideas.

You are the agent of old, failed ideas. Here's a new idea:

If Tippett is right, neither the men’s own culture nor the prison system can assist with their rehabilitation – and the acceptance of the Bugmy principles means they are effectively written off from the time of their early childhood. If older repeat offenders are beyond help, that ought not mean there’s no hope at all. Tippett argues that the new federal money must focus on men, but especially boys. “It’s not scientific. Rather than breeding more perpetrators, and funding a whole new industry based on society’s failure, spend the money on young people prior to them get into trouble. And then work on them when they get out,” says Tippett.

“I think Lia Finocchiaro’s focus on the young is right. She can’t offer outcomes immediately, and it’s going to take us a couple of decades to extricate ourselves. But the only reasonable way is to continue to focus on young people.

“We’ve thrown kids into prison and we’ve done it thinking they’ll suddenly become good people. They have instead experienced further brutality and isolation. They’ve already grown up with that, and that’s the reason they’re in prison.

“Everyone is listening to women. That fair enough. They are victims and we need to do the best we can to protect them – but to be truly effective we need fewer perpetrators. Hard approaches on youth can make sense if there’s a capacity for the young to understand the approaches and if they are relevant.

“I believe Lia Finocchiaro is a sincere person. She’s a mother who’s lived in the Territory all her life. She will try and do the best she can. I don’t think she has an agenda against any social group. Quite the opposite.”

It is past time for removing salvageable Aboriginal children from their toxic family, clan and tri bbal environments.

Enough of the human sacrifices at the altar of Aboriginal barbarity.

Are you trying to push the 'Black Dog' emotional racist blackmail on white people?

What about all the yellow people in the world and other races that have experienced the same of children taken from a neglectful parenting bordering on 'child abuse' or totally child abusive?

This "race to the bottom" politics is commonly used on much other public opinion

Why don't we ramp up nuclear power and build nuclear reactors at the pace of North Korea ?

Indians can be racist, so why can't WE ?

No one is suggesting any thing of the kind.

Why don't we plan to supplement our energy/power supply correctly and plan a couple of nuclear power plants? .....

because renewables won't run this country at 100% capacity. Especially as they haven't costed the building of adequate transmission for all of these new renewables projects ..... they just keep approving new ones.

As for your "Indians can be racists so why can't we?" - what infantile nonsense. Roll Eyes

If anyone is racing us to the bottom & failure it's the Labor left, Greens & Teals.

Stolen Generations?  Australia's just Sick of hearing about it all the time - GET OVER IT!

As for the abused/neglected kids - put 'em in an Aboriginal Boot Camp so they can learn how to be men and women without all the crap - get some reliable Elders to sort them out...

Could be a section of Aborassic Park... put some of that Abomoney to good use for a change...  (ooooooOOOHHHH!!)

Just like they are today.

But any opportunity to play the victim card.
Lies, and more lies.
