i assumed otherwise when this was first proposed

seems most people are not interested in this highly bureaucratic and confusing proposal

Correct, but because all previous efforts to close the gap have failed, the Yes voters are hoping the voice will magically change things - it won't, because fixing 'housing, education, jobs, and health' requires extra funding from government.

Problem is most people want to close the gap; yet (apart from education which is compulsory) the government can't even fix those things for all the non-black population.

The proponents, especially the Minister, have to face a barrage of questions coming from many angles. She has to mouth something, even if it is fluff.

Bottom line is...The Voice is a Constitutional recognition and allows the Abos to select Reps to go sit in a corner and have a talk fest.  If they are happy with that (and they should be because they asked for it).....who are we to stand in the way?

I'm looking ahead; the nation has to close the gap, regardless of the referendum outcome.

I intend to promote a Job Guarantee - Noel Pearson is on board, he mentioned it in one of his Boyer lectures.

All smoke.....and can be ignored by Parliament, Government and the Executive.

You understand nothing, if only for the reason that there is no detail on exactly what powers this 'voice' will have. You may believe it will be a bunch of aboriginals sitting in the corner and being ignored, but there is no evidence that this will be the case.

How many times do you have to be told? It is an advisory board only and the govt is free to ignore the advice or act on it, in full or in part,  as it sees fit. Govt is in no way obligated to act on any advice received.

If this was actually about electing or even appointing an Aboriginal board of advisers, Parliament could do it tomorrow. But that is not good enough for the Labor Party. You will be voting to make sure the Constitution allows parliament a free hand in make-up and powers. And these same people want a Republic? As if such a loose Constitutional amendment will lead to a more democratic society?
