New Australian made hunting rifle
Jun 23rd, 2023 at 11:31pm

Designed by Ron Owen at this stage available in .223 Rem, 6.5 manbun and .308W

It's designed to handle pressure from .277 SIG Fury which is a new round that looks good.

Looks like it can handle serious abuse they dropped it down stairs ran over it with 4WD caked it in mud and still worked.
Not something other manufacturers test.  Grin

A rifle that tough probably needs tough optics.

Impressed with whacking Aimpoint Micro with a baseball bat it still works.

He should've made it a self-loader.   Any reason why not?

Like the good old AK you mean Geoff?

I'd say he's kept it like this to be able to sell it in the Australian market.
AB licence will not permit self loading, although I'm sure he'd be able to modify the model for military use.

The AK is a beast like this.
Drop it in sand, mud, whatever and it still chambers a round.
That scope is something though.

You would have to ask Ron Owen why, i think there is a market for durable rifles he designed.

Wedgetail export semi auto rifles to the US they also sell them to Cat D license holders here. You wouldn't need AG Permit for imported semi auto buying locally made.
https://wedgetailindustries.com/product-category/rifles/rifles-semi-automatic/wt...

Not sure how they will go expensive compared to top end custom semi autos in the US. There are many that build their own AR platforms from the numerus companies that sell parts and those who prefer cheaper versions.
https://www.gaprecision.net/gap-10-g2.html

Lithgow arms export a semi auto version of this to the US.

Rifles are a difficult market people have different tastes lots of options.

If Ron Owen does a .277 Sig Fury version i could be tempted.

It is.  Wink

Historically men were hunters and women gathered.

Today shopping fits in with womens gathering instincts which is why women are content to wander around shopping centres or online looking for something they can pass off as a bargain to justify gathering it.

The males with low testosterone like to gather their food from supermakets these beta males support those who are unsure which toilet to use.

Men like hunting and fishing. Men don't like shopping (gathering) if they have to do it they know what they will be buying before they leave home and they don't stuff around looking at other stuff.

Too many idiots get hold of guns -

in America too many kids and even toddlers get hold of guns.
parents get shot by young kids -
young kids shoot their siblings - mostly accidents.

It's for women too.
My wife shoots.

Go to your local firing range.
Have a go at clay targets, and then come back and tell me you hated it.

However they are one of the most reliable automatic to have in a crappy environment imo.

Check out the tikka lite range.
Take a 243.
They say the action is soooo smooth.
Then grab the bolt and it slops around.

They're onto it.
Heat expands.
Tight tollerences equal jamming when hot.
It's not a watch.

Ha! We’re watching the Friday night game here (Panthers are winning against the Storm 28:16) and I asked my hubby about it. He looked at me at first with a really concerned look on his face at then told me I should probably just stick to learning how to play golf and catch fish. These 2 areas need more practice apparently lol.

With that attitude, sounds like he should tag along to the range.
You'll both enjoy it, guaranteed.
Most ranges will have a come a try day.
Few signatures and your away.
It's not hard, well hitting the clays can be, but the overall experience is easy.
I havent met anyone that didn't enjoy it.  Smiley

Ron Owen - controversial gun dealer in Gympie.

He's going to need a bit more to surpass Nioa Arms ... it started here ... they have a partnership with RhineMetal & a manufacturing military ammunition casings here.

https://www.nioa.com.au/latest-news/nioa-group-ceo-outlines-future-defence-indus...

Ran into CEO Robert Nioa and a few of his mates at The Imperial Hotel Quilpie 12/18 months ago ... we were on a boys outback jaunt ...

and he had flown in in his own private plane to meet up with mates who bought all the gear to go pig shooting on a property about 100klm NW of Quilpie.

They're looking more and more like 'toy guns' with each year.
