And no input from the oceans obviously. And still only back to 1979. I guess we didn't have weather before that.

Yep. Liquid in glass thermometers - the glass being a liquid changes shape, affects accuracy.

The PRT (Platinum Resistance Thermometer) has a bias, varying by about 0.7C, apparently not significant according to BoM.

They now use smaller Stevenson Screens and these have different characteristics to the larger Screen.

And that's all in the last 50 years. They are good for providing weather, as the changes are relatively small. Not so much for climate.

If there was such a thing as a fu*kwit meter it would be 100% accurate even if it was off-scale when pointed at Denizen Lee and Denizen UnsubRocky.

July 4 - Monday, July 3, was the hottest day ever recorded globally, according to data from the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction.

The average global temperature reached 17.01 degrees Celsius (62.62 Fahrenheit), surpassing the August 2016 record of 16.92C (62.46F) as heatwaves sizzled around the world.

The southern U.S. has been suffering under an intense heat dome in recent weeks. In China, an enduring heatwave continued, with temperatures above 35C (95F). North Africa has seen temperatures near 50C (122F).

And even Antarctica, currently in its winter, registered anomalously high temperatures. Ukraine's Vernadsky Research Base in the white continent's Argentine Islands recently broke its July temperature record with 8.7C (47.6F).

He doesn't understand Calibration facilities are indoors, temperature and humidity controlled. Not outdoors in Stevenson Screens. Just another yapping poodle. Roll Eyes
