For Russians, absorbing state-based lies as truth is not a problem.

Russian relationship to truth is multi-layered.

There's public truth - which is the 'politically correct' truth as discussed on the street, 'kitchen table' truth - what you say you believe when among friends and family, and private truth - what you say you believe when with your most trusted partner/friend.

Innocent? I would take a wild guess that if you are on a private jet with Prigozhin, you are probably complicet in any number of crimes including torture and murder.

This will blow over fast.

No Western power, nor China wanted Prigozhin to remain alive - not while Putin is the only hope for keeping central Asia stable.

The only ones who did want Prigozhin alive would be the tinpot African dictators relying on Wagner to prop up their regimes.

The next step will be to assassinate all Wagner senior operatives systematically.

No doubt France, Poland and Ukraine will be happy to covertly assist Russia in their elimination.

I think you are right. It will blow over quickly. No one cares. But I also think it is not some isolated problem for Putin. Think the US has problems? Russia is a basket-case.

Although the cause of the crash is unclear, Russian social media channels is awash with speculation that a case of fine wine onboard may in fact have been a bomb in disguise.

Prigozhin, formerly known as Putin's chef and with longstanding links to the Kremlin dictator, is believed to have been on a 'kill list' after his uprising failed and he was exiled to Belarus.

Ten bodies have been retrieved from the wreckage, local emergency services have said, but MailOnline is unable to independently verify whether Prigozhin was one of them.

A Wagner address last night, reported by the Sun, stated:
'We directly say that we suspect the Kremlin officials led by Putin of an attempt to kill him!'.

'If the information about Prigozhin's death is confirmed,
we will organise a second March of Justice on Moscow!'

Meanwhile armed men claiming to be from the unit warned Putin in a video shared online: 'There's a lot of talk right now about what the Wagner Group will do. We can tell you one thing.

'We are getting started, get ready for us.'

Putin apparently has the support of 80% of the Russian people.

Prigozhin signed his own death warrant with his aborted coup attempt and the degree to which he insulted Russian generals.

And nevermind France, Poland, Ukraine, the US, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, China etc... etc... all wanted him gone, gone.

There would have been a conga line of would-be assassins out to end him.
