I could be wrong but when I go to shopping centers I see
large numbers of gigantic women rather than men.
They are morbidly obese - they couldn't have long to live.
Most can't even walk - the waddle like ducks or they sit on mobility scooters.
I actually help sometimes to get them items from high shelves.
Their shopping trolleys are full of junk food - 100s of dollars of: fat, sugar and salt.
It's terrible - how could anyone let themselves get that big?
Maybe women in inner city Melbourne are just too spoiled with fast food. I live in what the government would call a disadvantaged part of the country. There are more bottle shops and fast food places than most other regional or metropolitan places around the country. However, women here have a good reputation for not being anywhere more than overweight. You see a lot of people jogging along the footpath near the highway, not far from the CrossFit training centre. My ex-housemate among those that do those exercises, even at 39 years of age.
One girl I knew, who was a teen model, actually put on weight in her 20s. The alcohol was too tempting for her. She got to a point where she was morbidly obese. Then she decided to do something about it. Over 2 years, she lost what I would guess to be about 40kg (almost 40% of her body weight). I saw her last year. She had regained her modeling-era figure again. Plus, she was now looking athletic.
Maybe it is a new culture of regional towns to look physically fitter. Rockhampton had a reputation of being a bunch of alcoholics that spent too much money on junk food. Now, we just seem to see reasonably fit to very fit people all over. The morbidly obese girls are a rarity. I have seen plenty of morbidly and supermorbidly obese guys around town, however.
