TikToker is jailed for two years for video showing her recite Islamic prayer
before eating pork in Muslim-majority Indonesia

Lina Mukherjee was found guilty of blasphemy charges by a court in Sumatra

...

A TikToker has been jailed for two years in Indonesia over a video of her reciting an Islamic prayer before eating pork, which has been widely condemned in the Muslim majority country.

In the video, Lina Mukherjee cringes as she utters a Muslim prayer that translates to 'in the name of God' before consuming crispy pork skin.

The 33-year-old was reported by a resident for the video, which racked up millions of views on the social media platform.

The influencer was found guilty of 'spreading information aimed at inciting hatred against religious individuals and specific groups' at a court in the city of Palembang.

Mukherjee, who is a self-proclaimed Muslim, was also handed a heavy fine for the clip, being ordered to pay 250 million rupiah (£13,000).

Indonesia is the largest Muslim-majority nation in the world and has strict blasphemy laws. Pork is considered 'haram,' or not permissible, under Islam.

How can we even do business with Indonesia when they have such insane laws?

They are Muslim idiots with no regard to human rights.

Indonesia is a shithole country.  End of story.

Around 274M people packed into a country the size
of Queensland, and 242M of 'em are Muslims FFS.

Its defence forces number 300,000 active personnel,
which is concerning in comparison to ours at 58,000
personnel.

We need to keep a very close watch on Indonesia.

yes - if Indonesia can put a woman in jail for 2 years for eating some pork
what would they do to us for eating pork and not being Muslims?
They could claim that Allah told them to invade us.

Iranian women face 10 years in jail for inappropriate dress after ‘hijab bill’ approved

By Tara Subramaniam, Adam Pourahmadi and Mostafa Salem, CNN

Published 12:34 PM EDT, Thu September 21, 2023

CNN  —

Iran’s parliament on Wednesday passed draconian new legislation imposing much harsher penalties on women who breach hijab rules, days after the one-year anniversary of mass protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini.

Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman, died last September after being detained by the regime’s infamous morality police, allegedly for not abiding by the country’s conservative dress code.

The so-called “hijab bill” will be enacted for a three-year trial period. It sets out various regulations around the wearing of clothing, which if violated can carry up to 10 years in prison.

Women not wearing the hijab properly in public and men who wear “revealing clothing that shows parts of the body lower than the chest or above the ankles,” would receive fines that gradually increase after repeated offenses, the bill says.

The bill also outlines penalties for celebrities and businesses who do not comply.

The Guardian Council, which oversees legislative matters in the Islamic Republic, still needs to approve the bill before it is implemented. All bills passed by the parliament must be reviewed and approved by the council to become law.

Parts of the bill are ambiguous. For example, the legislation fails to define what constitutes “semi-naked” in public – a crime punishable by “fourth degree” prison sentences. Under the Iranian penal code, a fourth-degree penalty carries a prison sentence between five to 10 years, and a fine between 180 million rials ($4,260) and 360 million rials ($8,520).

“Any person who appears naked or semi-naked in public, in public places or on roads, or appears in a way that is traditionally considered naked will be immediately arrested,” reads article 50 of the new law.

Those who collude with foreign media and governments to promote nudity, improper hijab, or improper dress, face up to 10 years in prison, the new bill adds. Those who are found guilty of ridiculing or insulting the hijab face a fine, in addition to a possible travel ban up to two years, the bill says.
Elahe Tavakolian is pictured in Milan, Italy, in August 2023.

One year since Mahsa Amini's death, a protester shot in the eye during Iran's crackdown continues her struggle from exile

The bill also targets “socially influential” people who if found guilty of breaking the bill could face the same fourth-degree jail sentence and could be asked to pay 1%-5% of their total assets as a fine.

The bill’s restrictions extend to mannequins and toys, which are banned from being portrayed with indecency.

he controversial bill has received condemnation from multiple human rights advocates. UN experts have said it could amount to “gender apartheid.”

The 70-article draft law includes a range of proposals, including the use of artificial intelligence to identify women in breach of the dress code.

Oh, dearie, dearie, me, most of Indonesia's armed forces are in the Police Force, rather than the Armed Forces as such.  Indeed, their armed forces are only lightly equipped, being armed with small arms only (ie, rifles and MGs).  Their proper armed forces is only roughly the same size as ours is and has been for over 50 years.  They haven't had designs on Australia since the days of Kofrontasi way back in the 1960s and that was primarily a political scare campaign that consisted of  series of maps showing "South Irian" to frighten Canberra when they were aiming to take over Malayan Borneo.  We have been allied to Indonesia since the 1990s under Paul Keating IIRC.   Indonesia's attention has been quite rightly focused northwards towards the PRC in the South China Sea and it's antics there.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
