organised religion has been used as a form of control and dominion.

Religion was used to bond disparate peoples into a cohesive community.

Incorrect. Religion was used to intimidate people into compliance.

Again, you are mistaking religion with spirituality.

Blue hairs people - what can you do?

Europe escaped pre-civilisation tribalism through a common religion, as did the Arabs.

Animism and manism (in modern parlance - spiritualism) are the 'religions' of pre-civilised, hunter-gatherer, nomadic peoples.

And tediously, every time you lose an argument with me it's straight to the blue hair.

Such a fragile ego.

You have a teenager's understanding of religion.

Do you wear crystals for well-being?

Back to calling people teenagers now.

Fragile, fragile ego.

I'm not calling you a teenager - I'm betting you're a bit on the old side - I'm saying you have a teenager's (simplistic) understanding of religion.

Yes, because you have to relegate your opponent to being less than you when you are in a tight spot. You do it time and time again.

Not only is everything i've said on religion spot on, you've said nothing that contradicts it. You've merely convinced yourself that you have.

In you're incredibly hasty desire to be condescending, i find you often overlook the point others are making to you.

Your understanding of religion and the roles it played in civilised societies is not even close to 'spot on'. It is a late-20th-century teenager's comprehension of religion.

Religion was an absolute necessity to advance the civilising process and - unless you're telling us you're out there in the bush worshipping rocks and ancestors - your cultural inheritance was brought to you by civilisation and those religions that furthered it.

What a stupid comment.

Tell me how religion has advanced the plight of women?

You've an ethno-centric and misogynistic ideal of religion that is only validated by the absence of anything else in it's place to perform a likewise function.

In actual fact, it can be argued that through the immense exchange of ideas with differing religions, religion wasn't the defining feature.

And, as i have maintained and is utterly empirically provable, religion has been at the very heart of most of the world's misery.

ethnocentric? misogynistic?

Religions are largely not ethnocentric they are pan-ethnic - they transcend clanism and tribalism. Some are ethnocentric - e.g. Zoroastrianism - but they are small and insignificant in their influence.

As for misogyny, I have not mentioned gender at all.

To understand the societal functions of religion is not to posit the existence of god(s).

Hubby is making popcorn 🍿

We’re watching a Friday night movie here (something normal people do).

I’m looking at my iPhone every so often. Right now I’m trying to figure out if you and I are watching 2 Atheists fighting in a “Does Atheism Really Exist” topic. 😂🤣😆

Have another go.

I asked you a simple question.

I even gave you 2 multiple choice options.

There you go again, a teenager's comprehension of religion.

The world's misery - on an exponential scale - has been caused by disease, famine, flood, fire, drought, misadventure while gathering resources...

After that, there are clan feuds and internecine tribal conflicts over territory and resources.

Religion was not at the heart of any of those miseries, which afflicted all peoples and societies from the beginning.

You're thinking only of war. How male of you.

Now, think of every day suffering.

If you're asking, do I believe that religion has only been a force for good, the I'd say no.

All institutions are vulnerble to corruption and political manipulation.

But to say that religion has only been a force for imposing misery on the peoples within the cultures they inhabited, is simple-minded.

Yet i never said that. You just fell over yourself trying to feel superior.

And look at that, all this while you agreed with me.

How about death through childbirth? Even cesarian sections were a death warrant to women enduring them - another cause of human misery.
