Was it you who wrote that religion was the cause of most of the misery in the world?

Of course you didn't think of the greatest causes of human misery (e.g. disease, famine, flood, fire, drought, misadventure while gathering resources, clan feuds and internecine tribal conflicts over territory and resources), because you never had to endure them - that and a teenager's comprehension of religion and history led you to your own (untenable) conclusion that religion is the cause of most of the world's misery.

Religion, the culmination of many Paganisms in a collected best seller series - was created as a 'moral code' defence and sanctuary from the emerging 'military' culture that came with 'civilisation'.
That is, it gave the victims of military violence a sense of 'hope', when there is none and softened the blow when the military 'weapon' chopped their heads off.
Religion to Military is no different to the poor mass Art culture of America to the power above of Politics for the few.

What percentage would you say over the past couple of thousand years have had their day to day lives made better by being under religious control?

How about the promotion and advancement of science, art, culture, civilisation - all beneficiaries and projects of religions throughout history.

Those religions that did not advance these causes - nearly all of them died.
