After reading through this topic ... I’ve personally concluded that you’re all either Atheists or Agnostics.

Out of curiosity... is there anyone left on OzPol who identifies as a Christian (not just a theist) apart from Sprint and myself? If you do why not let us know. That way we can identify the members in this minority group.

1. Sprint
2. Lisa Jones (myself)

Who else?

Bobby?

I identify as a hellfire and brimstone preacher.

Of what? The Christian faith?

Presbyterian by baptism -  and you?

Oh so you’re RELYING on some baptism rite which took place whilst you were a baby to help you work out if you’re a Christian (or not) as an adult. Yes?

yes and you?

Bobby ... so because someone put you in a font as a baby you are a Christian today? Is that what you are saying to me?

yes and you?

What is your religion?

As an adult I’m responsible for making my decisions. I have no “religion”.

In fact I renounced my baptism as a baby because it was not my decision ie others made that decision for me without my understanding or knowledge.

As a teenager I made a decision...that decision was MY own decision and it was based on MY faith and MY understanding in God and the Holy Bible at that stage. MY decision was to seek God and to get to know him. I asked God to please make himself known to me.

Well as an adult I went through a number of terrifying lived experiences and it was through those experiences that I found I only had time for a God who did exist or else I would not survive. Nor would my babies. During those awful times I found peace and comfort through reading God’s Word. The sense of reassurance and hope during a time of desperation and fear is like giving a thirsty person in the desert a cup of water. It was life saving.

As a result of what I can only describe as sequential miracles in my life ... I found I could ONLY trust and believe in God and his word - the Bible. So now ... I can’t believe in anything else. I most certainly can’t trust or believe in any person. I can’t trust/rely or believe in the words of people. Politics and Religion involve people doing a lot of talking so that other people can do a lot of trusting and believing.

I refuse to believe in what people say/do. I hear them. I don’t believe them.

I only trust myself and God. Don’t get me wrong ... I love and care about lots of people. That doesn’t mean I trust them.

My husband, my children, my siblings etc 👈 I totally love them and even they know I’m prepared to die for them if need be.

I’m just not prepared to go to Hell for them. That’s where the love stops and my love for God continues. God 1st. Always. My standards regarding my faith in God are personal and are the result of a life that’s suffered and has seen amazing miracles. It’s MY life and this is MY testimony. If you don’t like it or don’t believe it...good. I don’t particularly care. And I make no apologies for believing in an everlasting afterlife where justice prevails. My only objective these days is to get there so I can see the face of my Maker to thank him for helping me to understand that my life here on earth was just a dress rehearsal for the real thing.

Bobby ... you don’t become a Christian because someone else placed you in a font of water when you were a baby. The Bible itself clearly explains all this.

Catholics, Orthodox, Anglicans, Presbyterians etc ... have all inherited elements of paganism in their rituals. Infant baptism is just one example of this.

(You might notice that these “churches“ are merely offshoots which have sprung out of each other over time. Even so...there’s a lot of paganism in these “churches” and we can thank the Catholics for initiating and incorporating paganism and rebadging it with the title “Christianity“.)

As a baby in a font OR as an adult knowing about and owning his decision?

Not so fast.....as an adult what decision have YOU made? That’s a question for YOU to reflect on Bobby. Your life, your choice, your decision.

Now this next sentence reflects a general observation about you.

I personally think you’ve got a good heart and you mean well. I would love to see you in Heaven. I guess I’m saying that I would be upset if you were missing and I couldn’t find you there.

Note : I say this to many atheists and agnostics Bobby. My husband is agnostic so he hears it a lot.

Cheers

I don't support organised religion where people meet
every Sunday and compare clothes etc.
I believe that people should be able to read the Bible and
find answers to their questions there.

I feel pretty much the same way. My attendance at church isn’t all that good. I do have a lot of friends and relatives and neighbours who attend church every Sunday. I often wonder if any of them are really Christian. Many people seriously believe that sitting in a church will turn them into a Christian. I suppose if they sat in a garage they’d believe that would turn them into a car.

Have another read about why I’m a Christian. You will note that it has nothing to do with church attendance (and definitely nothing to do with being placed in a church font as a baby).

Cheers Bobby

I think you meant cheers Lisa?

Yes - just forget about church -
those places have too many hypocrites and notice
most of the newer ones preach "the prosperity message"  ?
They encourage people to chase after material wealth
as if that will make them happy.
What could be further from the teachings of the Bible?

Note : I’m 100000% with you regarding everything you’ve stated. Just be careful you don’t allow PEOPLE to get in the way of your PERSONAL relationship with God and His Word. It’s both a PRIVATE and PERSONAL journey. It’s been great chatting to you like this. I hope you decide to make a commitment to be a Christian. If you don’t ... then I guess I’ll have to accept that decision also.

Cheers

There is no evidence of a personal god. Everything we have come to know about this world has come from studying this world. And in that study we have found no need for gods whatsoever.

However, each to their own. If you want to believe in a god that's your prerogative. If it gets you through your dark night of the soul or allows you to face each day, fine. If you like the sense of community and ritual you receive from fellow believers, all well and good.

But keep it out of government and education.

Wrong. That’s just your opinion. And you’re entitled to it. Please be sure you abide by it until your dying breath.

You might like to look at how you contradict your Christianity in this forum every day. I'd imagine that on your dying breath you will still be talking out both sides of your vicious mouth at the same time.

And if there is a Christian god and you cross over he/she will greet YOU with:

"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

The ten commandments

1.  I am the LORD your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me.
2.  You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
3.  Remember to keep holy the LORD'S Day.
4.  Honor your father and your mother.
5.  You shall not kill.
6.  You shall not commit adultery.
7. You shall not steal.
8.  You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
9.  You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
10 You shall not covet your neighbor's goods.

Booby has broken the 7th and eighth commandments, Larry the 8th and 10th. Neither will go to a [mythical] heaven.
