Plus, who will the 'donkey votes' go to?
The Yes crowd or the No??

Informal votes you mean?

They’re not included.

Usually 'Donkey Votes' go to the Party in Power.
So does this mean, the YES (via ALP) crowd get to benefit from the Donkey Votes.
...now an 'informal vote', say someone scribbles "get stuffed" on it - could also be considered a 'donkey vote' to the advantage of the YES/ALP???

A donkey vote goes to whichever candidate is on the top of the ballot paper.

It does not usually go to the party in power.  FFS, who told you that crap?

A donkey vote is when someone numbers the boxes in order starting with 1 at the top and working their way down 2, 3, 4, etc.

A donkey vote is a valid vote, and it goes to whoever has the box at the top.

An informal vote is something completely different, and they go to nobody.

Stop spreading bullshit.

FFS, how are people this stupid?   Roll Eyes

Definition: A donkey vote occurs when an elector simply numbers the ballot paper from top to bottom (or bottom to top) without regard to the logic of the preference allocation.

A donkey vote is counted as a valid vote because it contains a number “1” and has numbered every square in sequential order.

Many people believe that donkey votes are informal. This is not true.

A donkey vote is counted as a valid/formal vote. Provided the voter has marked the number “1” against a candidate and numbered the other candidates in order of preference, the vote will be counted.

Wasn't talking to you gay-weakling pecker

Makes no difference who you were talking to, you're still spreading lies.  Complete & utter bullshit.

Do yourself a favour and volunteer to be a scrutineer.

Then you'll see what actually happens with the ballots.

FFS, there's no hope for some people   Roll Eyes

No donkey voting is not an option in a Yes / No vote. I guess you could write Donkey in the box ?

I thought about voting maybe.

This indicates that you have no idea of what constitutes
a "donkey" vote.  Of course each of your votes go to the
party selected on the ballot paper by the way you number
it—in this case with "1" at the top, and running down
consecutively.

It never ceases to surprise, and disturb me, how little
people really know about the Australian electoral system.
And Jasin's response here is a classic example.

Nope - did me training today - only got 100% on the test - it clearly says YES or NO... nothing else.  Tighter with this than with the elections I've done.

No hankey-pankey.

Seen as you are 'in the know' Grapps.
Tell me. If I write on the voting paper "Peccary is a Gay weakling that serves Africa" - does that go to the Yes vote?

...Well, I could go to, say, 15 polling booths and vote 15 time under someone's name. At the end of they day, they will identify that someone voted 15 times but they will not be able to identify and remove the actual ballot papers with the fraudulent multiple votes. Those fake votes would stay counted.

Not so Frank.  You're identified by both your residential
address, and your name on the Electoral Roll.

You therefore couldn't cast a ballot 15 times.  And this
silly concept makes me think you don't understand the
checks and balances in the AEC's fraud detection system.

And no;  of course the fake votes wouldn't be counted LOL.

They could not identify the 15 ballot papers the votes would strand. They would not discover the multiple voting, at different booths, until they electronically matched the rolls they cross off manually when you front up and give your neighbour's name and address.

Yes and if these votes made a difference in the election result there would be a remedy.

If this happens it is part of the expected 0.01% of multiple votes typical of Australian elections. It just does not make any difference. There was an election over 100 years back where it did make a difference and there was a by-election and a few other examples.

Obviously if there is 50 double votes in an election won by 20 votes the result will not be confirmed or in this case if there are 50 multiple votes and the no vote wins by 20 action will be taken likely if it sways the overall result.

It is just not relevant at 0.01%. Trying to fix it would likely create a much greater risk.

An example would be to create a large networked DB so that each name could only crossed off once. This would expose network security problems and a huge cost for virtually no gain @ huge risk.

Should we spend say $500 million to fix a 0.01% issue when people would just find a different way to cheat and likely be more successful say taking it to 1% ?

You do all get that this isn't going to be close ? I doubt a multiple vote of 20% would sway the result.

C'MON SMITH & DNAREVER - SING ALONG!!!

"We have the chance to turn the pages over
We can write what we want to write
We gotta make ends meet, before we get much older
We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?
You're the voice, try and understand it
Make the noise and make it clear, oh, woah
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear, oh, woah
This time, we know we all can stand together
With the power to be powerful
Believing we can make it better
Ooh, we're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son, oh
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?
You're the voice, try and understand it
Make the noise and make it clear, oh, woah
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear, oh, woah
Ooh, we're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?
You're the voice, try and understand it
Make the noise and make it clear, oh, woah
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear, oh, woah
You're the voice, try and understand it
Make the noise and make it clear, oh, woah
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear, oh, woah
You're the voice, try and understand it
Make the noise and make it clear, oh, woah
(We're not gonna sit in silence) We're not gonna sit in silence
(We're not gonna live with fear), oh, woah
You're the voice, try and understand it
