I asked some yank homebrewer friends of mine when was the last cavalry charge. One told me of some (red) Indian wars charge. I told them of Beersheba. He really was impressed.

I told him all but one of the walers (horses) used by the Aussies were either shipped to England or, if too old, shot by their rider rather than let them fall into Arab hands. He understood that.

Aussies were the first into Bagdad and Beirut, much to the chagrin of English commanders.
