in WW2 we had severe petrol ratioing, food rationing  and back then we were largely self sufficient

in a WW3 scenrio its a nightmare to be in a city (and australia is the world most urbanised country)

Or a farmer defending his livestock against armed urban gangs stealing them, as what happened in Cuba after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Meister Eckhardt - I may have to start a topic on that philosopher’s name. Let’s see what other names come up. Spinoza will definitely be one of them.

Please don’t think you’re the only poster on OzPol who studied Philosophy at Uni.

Good to have a plan, but we're all only ever a few weeks away from death by starvation and/or dehydration.

The threat of starvation is one of the most primal reasons for doing whatever is necessary to secure a food source.

I have spoken with Papua-New Guinean tribespeople about the best way to cook and eat sinewy southern European refos.

the toilet paper in covid scenario was a wake up call

if supply chains crash , it will be mayhem within a day or two.

cousin west of roma lives on 10,000 acres.

this guy resents having to go to roma once every 3 months for supplies.

but he likes family and he likes hunting and to be honest, there are so many feral pigs goats deer on his property, it would never fail to deliver.

i wouldnt want to be in the USA if this scenario occurs

400 million guns and a lot of entitlement

it would be apocalyptic.

Yes, the toilet paper fiasco is the best and most ludicrous example of instinctive human acquisitiveness.

How much more exponentially worse would it be if that instinct was expressed due to the primal sense of hunger and fear of starvation, I wonder.

Even cannibalism was a goto in the Soviet Union during Stalin's reign of terror.

If you stockpile better have a few guns and big, aggressive, powerful dogs.

If you are known to have a safe you will be robbed—you have items valuable enough to warrant a safe.

If you are known to have a stockpile—people will come to steal it.

Yes - I'm building up a supply of food.

However in WW2 in Europe -
people suffered armed home invasions from people demanding food.
They would literally shoot you to get food.
Hungry people will do anything.
