Everybody can have a country - Belgians, Tuvaluans, Kiribatians, Haitians, Bahamians, Barbadosians, Andorrans, Lichtensteinians. Everybody, no matter how preposterous.

Not the Jews who predate almost any people in existence with their own countries and who had a country where Israel is now well before most countries came into existence.

Israelis have a country - Israel. That is a brute fact, There's no need for arguing it's right to exist - it exists.

But claims of Israeli citizenship cannot be predicated on any ethnic claim.

To become an Israeli (excluding by descent from inhabitants since 1948) - an individual can become a citizen via Israel's idiosyncratic 'Law of Return' which does not discriminate by ethnicity, but by evidence of an individual having been born into a non-Israeli Jewish family and who has not converted to any other religion or who has practised Judaism for a sufficient enough time.

That's not how Muslims see it.
You know, the Muslims that fire rockets, suicide bomb, rape, brutalise, mutilate Jews in Israel and  Paris, Malmö, etc.
They would do it to Jews even if Israel didn't exist. They are screaming, " I have killed my Jew!", not that "I have killed my citizen of Israel!"

All Sunni Arab states have come to the realisation that Israel's existence is a fact. Given that Israel's Sunni neighbours have come to that conclusion, Sunni Muslims outside the region have no sound basis to continue their anachronistic resistance to Israel's existence any more than Hidustanis of Bharat and the Indian diaspora have regarding Pakistan's or Bangladesh's existence.

For me it's beyond historical residency. I would ask WTF you think you will get in it's place if it falls. The rest of the middle east is a mess of barbarism, Israel is there now, should we revert history again? Israel is the only country in the region with at least a semblance of civilisation.

That's how the Sunni Arab states see it.

That and the fact that Israel is the supreme regional power, with one added advantage for the Arabs - Israel has no ambition to be the leader of the Arab or Muslim world, so whichever state gains Israel's favour - currently Saudi Arabia is the only contender- will rule the Arab and Muslim world.

If we've learned nothing else from the clash of ancient religious cultures, we should at least have learned that - it's what Gandhi feared would happen if India was ever partitioned - he was right, as it turned out.

Ancient religious claims and tenets are tenacious and, when woven into the social and political fabric of a culture, they can easily survive multiple millennia.

Israel is an actual, modern country, attacked by barbarians.

Does it have to be bombed? If you change the criteria to killed... Then we get every nation state and in the times gone by, city states doing exactly that. For eg, the Mongols killing of peoples is estimated to be 10 million, a significant proportion of the worlds estimated 400 million people. There were kids in those stats.

The Romans sought to "cut the tree off at the root" for Gallia Cisalpina. Killed the women and children while the men were otherwise engage.
That is our history.

Really? Read up on history.

Those states that have survived are those that have done whatever it takes to survive.

Statehood is not a god-given right, it is the result of its citizens' capacity to hold it together no matter the cost.

I don't give a crap about history.  You've already been educated on the difference between the modern worlds military capabilities and that of yesteryears.  Are you just slow or do you like being wrong?

You been on the cool aid again? Is Israel defending itself from all those dangerous babies sleeping in their incubators? Or was it the kids hiding under their beds that scared Israel?
