Australia is just paying the cost. US will command the subs and Australians will be emptying the ashtrays and cleaning the latrines.

Hear hear sir LTYC.

We'll be paying 9 times the actual cost for each sub.

Let's say that the cost is A$5 billion each.

We're paying $368 billion for 8 subs.
368/8 = $46 billion each which is about 9 times the price that we should be paying.

I know - yes -
we will get submarine manufacturing Australian locations in the deal but still -
why should we pay 9 times the price?

This is a point that dopey Brian can't argue.
It is missing in parliamentary debate too as both sides approve it.   tsk  tsk

Looks like the ADF wants homos to sign up:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13561293/Australian-Defence-Force-slamm...

Australian Defence Force is slammed for asking recruits to answer 'woke garbage' questions:
'Our enemies are laughing at us'

'Defence capability is reliant on our ability to attract and
retain the best possible talent regardless of
background, gender, age, culture, religion, ability or sexual orientation,' he said.

'Diversity and inclusion are critical to the successful delivery of Defence's mission.

'It is important that the Defence workforce reflects the communities that we serve.'

The Australian Defence Force has been accused of promoting 'woke garbage' after asking recruits about their pronouns and sexuality on application forms.

The Department of Defence APS careers website asks potential soldiers, sailors and aviators if they use alternate genders or are part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

'Which pronouns do you use: he/him, she/her, they/them,' is the first question asked on the form.

Recruits are also queried if they 'identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, questioning (LGBTIQ+)?'

United Australia Party Senator Ralph Babet slammed it as 'woke garbage', arguing  the country's enemies would be laughing at us.

Amazon wins contract to store 'top-secret' Australian military intelligence

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the project will create 2,000 jobs

and "bolster our defence and national intelligence community to ensure
they can deliver world-leading protection for our nation".

In short:

Three data centres will be built in secret locations to host Australia's military secrets.

Amazon has won the $2 billion contract to store the classified intelligence.
What's next?

The massive project will roll out over several years, and is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs

American technology giant Amazon will establish a "top-secret" data cloud to store classified Australian military and intelligence information under a $2 billion partnership with the federal government.

Three highly secure data centres will be built in secret locations across the country to support the purpose-built Top Secret (TS) Cloud which will be run by a local subsidiary of Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The massive new project is expected to harness cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technology and scheduled to be in operation by 2027, with the government insisting Australia will have complete sovereignty over the cloud.

Similar data clouds have already been established in the US and UK allowing the sharing of "vast amounts of information", with intelligence figures highlighting that potential adversaries were also investing heavily in similar technology.

Initially, the government will invest at least $2 billion into the project being run by the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) and AWS, but it's expected to cost billions more in operating costs over the coming years.

Details of the massive project were first revealed in a speech to an American audience last year by the director-general of national intelligence Andrew Shearer, who emphasised the benefits it presented for collaboration for partner nations.

Mick Ryan is a retired major general in the Australian Army.

Mick Ryan - To Avoid Ukrainian Defeat by a Thousand Cuts the NATO Strategy Needs to Radically Change

Jul 11, 2024  At First Hand - Experiences of the War
Barely a week goes by without things occurring that would have been inconceivable three years ago. Russian territory being hit by American made munitions, history’s most substantial sanctions in place against Russia, a near coup against the Kremlin, and Putin going cap-in-hand to Kim-Jong-Un to prop up his ailing military. What more can happen before these tensions and conflicts coalesce into World War 3 – especially the expectations that Korea troops will soon be fighting on the territory of Europe.

Australia promises record military aid for Ukraine
as NATO calls out China as an 'enabler' of Russia's invasion

By Brad Ryan in Washington DC

In short:

Australia is promising $250 million worth of military aid for Ukraine,
the largest single package it has provided for the country's defence against Russia to date.

NATO allies are also pledging more support, and calling on China to cease being an enabler of Russia's war.
What's next?

Australia will provide guided and air defence missiles, anti-tank weapons and ammunition. A "small number" of Australian personnel will join a NATO command for Ukraine.

The Australian government is set to give Ukraine another $250 million in military support — its largest contribution to the war effort since Russia invaded.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles announced the package on the final day of the NATO summit in Washington DC.

The event, which has been taking place against a backdrop of turbulence in American politics, has been largely focused on bolstering support for Ukraine.

But Australia and other non-member partners from Asia-Pacific nations have sent delegations to strengthen ties with the alliance amid fears about Chinese aggression in the region.

NATO has also accused China of being a "decisive enabler" of Russia's ongoing invasion, and called on Beijing to stop supplying weapons components, and other material and political support.

"The PRC [People's Republic of China] cannot enable the largest war in Europe in recent history without this negatively impacting its interests and reputation," a summit declaration issued by NATO leaders says.

Australia charges Russian-born married couple with espionage

By Renju Jose
July 12, 20243:05 PM GMT+10Updated an hour ago

SYDNEY, July 12 (Reuters) - Australia said on Friday it had arrested a Russian-born married couple on espionage charges, alleging the woman who was an information systems technician in the Australian Army sought to access defence material and send it to Russian officials.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) said the couple, who hold Australian citizenship, worked to access material related to Australia's national security though no significant compromise had been identified yet.
"We allege they sought that information with the intention of providing it to Russian authorities," AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw said during a media briefing.
"Whether that information was handed over remains a key focus of our investigation."
The AFP said the woman, 40, travelled to Russia and instructed her husband in Australia to log into her official account to access defence materials.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese warned anyone considering acting against Australia's national security.
"People will be held to account who interfere with our national interests and that's precisely what these arrests represent," Albanese told reporters. He declined to comment directly on the case saying it was before the court.
Igor and Kira Korolev appeared in the magistrate's court in Brisbane, court filings showed, after being charged with one count each of preparing for an espionage offence, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in jail. The charges are the first under new laws introduced in 2018.
They did not apply for bail and were remanded in custody until Sept. 20 when they are next due to appear, media reported.
The couple has been living in Australia for more than 10 years, with the woman getting Australian citizenship in 2016 and her husband in 2020.
The arrests come as Australia on Thursday unveiled an A$250 million ($169 million) military aid package for Ukraine at the NATO summit in Washington, the country's single largest aid package since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
Australia is one of the largest non-NATO contributors to the West's support for Ukraine and has been supplying defence equipment to Kyiv, banned exports of aluminium ores to Russia and sanctioned more than 1,000 Russian individuals and entities.

AUKUS: Are nuclear-powered submarines a good idea for Australia?

And, based on other defence projects, he contends there will be cost blowouts.

"Whenever [the Department of] Defence says it's going to cost you $1,
always multiply it by three. A
and so your $368 billion is, in effect, a lifetime cost of $1 trillion," he says.

"And you can do a hell of a lot with $1 trillion."

Australia will not actually own the submarines, Australia will just pay their purchase price and operating expenses.

The USA will control the submarines and decide who will be killed by them.

Australians will not be allowed access to any.

According to whom?  You LTYC?  What authority do you have to make this statement?  Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

It is the truth.

The US will not allow Australia any control or access to secret technology.

Australia will just get the privilege of naming the submarines and making the false claim that Australia owns them.

That's true LTYC,
also:
we will be delivered "black boxes" for all the electronics -
no circuits of what's inside and no information -
just take the old black box out and plug the new one in.
Software will tell the service person which black box is faulty.

Australia Left Defenceless After Decades of Failures

Jul 23, 2024

Australia has been left almost defenceless after decades of failures from both sides of politics.

They've gutted our defence forces and failed our troops. The current Chief of the Defence even criticised a "warrior" culture in our special forces. This is absurd.

We have to give our Defence Force personnel a proper purpose and a clear mission. We need to spend less money on gender advisers and more on ammo.

8th August 2024 interview.

Paul Keating from last night's interview about AUKUS, submarines, Taiwan and China.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-08-08/paul-keating-aukus-china-albanese-foreign...

Former Australian prime minister Paul Keating has taken aim at Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Defence Minister Richard Marles, accusing them of abandoning traditional party values.

Speaking to 7.30 in an interview about the AUKUS agreement, Mr Keating accused the government of being a "sellout" on its defence policy, while defending Chinese interests in Taiwan.

"In defence and foreign policy, this is not a Labor government," Mr Keating said.

"This is a party which has adopted the defence and foreign policies of the Morrison Liberal government.

"This is a sellout."

Asked about the wishes of the Taiwanese people, and China's threat to dismantle civil society in the country, Mr Keating told 7.30 Taiwan was not a vital Australian interest.

Should conflict arise between the US and China over Taiwan, Mr Keating said Australia would be the nation that would ultimately lose out.

"The Chinese will fight to the last teenage soldier to defend Taiwan and the Chinese state, and the Americans will not take on such a fight and more than that, will not win it.

"[Then] all of a sudden the Americans take off and leave and we're the ones who have done all the offence."

It is true especially to crew nuclear subs on deterrent patrols. 3 months under water in closed environment shell with the world's fate responsibility would flip most of the people.
Note that 3 months is human physiological limit, not that of the boat.

The Labor and Liberal politicians set to make $millions from the AUKUS money train.

The AUKUS scam exposed

...

By Shane Dowling on September 1, 2024      • ( 28 Comments )

Liberal Party and Labor Party former politicians, such as Scott Morrison, Joe Hockey and former WA Premier Mark McGowan are lining up to cash in on Australia’s defence spending which is expected to double and hit $100 billion a year.

At the top of the list for greedy former politicians is the $368 billion AUKUS submarine deal between Australia, the US and UK.

Anyone who has watched the AUKUS deal knows it is a huge fraud and it is nothing more than a massive slush fund for corrupt politicians to make a lot of money and that is what we’ll look at in this article.

What you will see, as far as defence spending and the AUKUS deal is concerned, is that both the Labor Party and Liberal Party act as if they were one party and they don’t even try to hide it.

The exact number of former politicians that are on the AUKUS / Defence money train I don’t know but I am sure there are others making money from the defence industry. With the rapid growth of defence spending there will many more in the near future. If you know of any, please add them in the comment section below.

As the years go by and the AUKUS scam becomes more and more obvious the politicians will just try another scam to cover-it up. Hopefully by then Australia will have a minority government heavily reliant on independents who will make sure it is exposed for the scam it is.

a comment:

just another Military Industrial Complex conjob,
