Police and border agents monitoring convicted criminals released from immigration detention will get $255m to bolster tracking efforts and prosecute those who breach sweeping emergency laws.

At least 141 foreigners, including murderers, rapists and child sex offenders, have been set free in the
community since the High Court ruled against their indefinite detention on November 8.

The federal funding package will be announced by the Albanese government today.

Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil said agencies would be able to dedicate time and resources to manage the cohort.

“We have only one priority and that is protecting the safety of the community within the limits of the law,” she said.

The federal funding package will be announced by the Albanese government on Monday and includes a cash injection for the joint Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Border Force (ABF) Operation AEGIS established by the Department of Home Affairs to respond to the court decision.

What a ridiculous outcome from the ruling by our woke wanker High Court.

I agree they should be held in detention indefinitely ..... they should have been deported long ago.

Next thing they'll be finding all the murderers, rapists & child sex offenders in our prison system are there illegally & order their release.

This country is going to shyte in a hand basket.

So you would allow the Government of the day to decide the guilt and punishment of individuals instead of the courts....It was legislation introduced by Peter Dutton whilst he was Home Affairs Minister that was unconstitutional and forced the court to release the detainees....Be careful what you wish for???

They are not Australian citizens... the do not fit the criteria for granting asylum because they are known criminals ....meaning they are not of good character...

they should be deported ... end of.

Why on earth would you condone the release of foreign criminals into our society?

I am not condoning anything....It has already been established these detainees cannot be sent home and cannot be locked up indefinatly unless they have commited a crime and sentenced by a court of law....The only crime most of these detainees have commited were to arive by boat and seek asylum....The only way to deport all refugees would be to amend the constitution and remove Australia from the refugee convention....The original policy was designed to deter boat arrivals by subjecting them to indefinate detention and denying them entry to Australia by sending them to other countries who would take them....Politicians cannot decide the guilt and punishment of any one in Australia and so it should be....Your argument is flawed and has no basis in law!!!

Quote:
Although the numbers fluctuate, usually only a small proportion of asylum applicants in Australia arrive by boat—most arrive by air with a valid visa and then go on to pursue asylum claims. While the number of boat arrivals has risen substantially in recent years, it is worth noting that even in high arrival years they still comprise just over half of onshore asylum seekers in Australia and a greater proportion of those arriving by boat are recognised as refugees. In 2014, arrival numbers fell again and there was only one boat arrival in Australia. As a result, the majority of asylum applicants arrived by air.

So they get monitored, and they get charged if they breach the rules ... but how long will the monitoring go on for?

Most of them are not criminals we are told, so the majority will be given the opportunity to apply for citizenship after the next election

The few remaining, criminals, will be strictly monitored until the next election, after which, the Libs and Labs will come to an agreement that will allow those criminals to work, but with their ankle monitors still on. Then after two years of working and being monitored during that time, they will have their ankle monitors removed and allowed to blend into the community. The dust would have settled, and our short memories and our abundance of humanitarian tolerance will take over, negating any thoughts that those criminals could possibly commit any more crimes

My conscience is clear, I've never voted for the half-brained ALP and Coalition, and I'm not about to start now

Who'd vote for that big mouth Clare O'Neil? ... egotistical generic Clare! ... "I'll keep you safe, I'll keep you safe" - sure, keep the criminals safe before anyone else

Been there - done that - justice delayed is justice denied - ergo - forget the prison sentence and waste of money - ship 'em out on the first available flight and dump 'em in the airport at their 'home country' - let them deal with it.

You bred 'em - you fed 'em - now we are not going to bed 'em and shed 'em but shed 'em instead 'em!!

Has everyone in this country had their balls removed by this ridiculous Matriarchy?  Have they all decided they'd prefer to be 'transwomen' and snuggle up to the poor widdle cwiminals instead of boosting their arses into orbit?

There is no punishment in being orbited out of the country where you have committed grievous crime, and no punishment in being held in safe detention away from the community until deportation occurs.

Shape 'em up and ship 'em out...

I just told you what the "practical" solutions will be. The crims will be allowed to blend into the community after the next election when we've all forgotten about the issue

The High Court ruled that their indefinite detention was unlawful, it didn't rule that the crims among them were innocent

Let's try to be sensible here.  Many have been convicted by the courts of serious crimes including child rape and murder.  One has an Interpol warrant out for his arrest and we are protecting him.

These are not innocent people nor are they Australians.  Most are convicted criminals.   They should NOT be let out on our streets amongst innocent and unsuspecting citizens.

What are you going to tell the families of victims when thry commit more crimes.   They have rights but you don't?    It's high time we started looking out for our own.

Released asylum seekers refuse ankle bracelets

Four asylum seekers are under investigation after refusing to wear an electronic ankle monitoring bracelet as Labor refuses to reveal exactly what offences each of the 138 people now released from immigration detention have been convicted of.

Paywall sorry.   If they refused to wear an ankle bracelet why were they just let go?   This has to be the most insanity I've ever witnessed.

Afghan refugee asked three boys for sex
after being released from immigration detention

Australia
By William      Last updated Nov 23, 2023

FYBR served more than nine months in prison and was then transferred to immigration detention, where he spent the next seven years. The photo shows Villawood detention center in Sydney’s west

FYBR applied for a safe haven visa as he faced persecution due to
his Hazara ethnicity and Shia Muslim religion,

but was denied because he did not meet the character test.

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal again rejected FYBR when it attempted to overturn that decision.

“FYBR knows that what he did in Australia was unacceptable because of the consequences of his actions for him, but he does not understand why his actions were wrong,” it said.

‘He seemed to think his behavior was acceptable because he didn’t touch his victims.

‘The tribunal concludes from his evidence that at the material time he believed that the freedom available in Australia, compared to the restrictions on his conduct in Pakistan, enabled him to solicit minors to satisfy his sexual desires.’

The tribunal rejected FYBR’s claim that he was now aware of Australian law and spent every night reading a code of conduct provided to him while in detention.

You send them back to the airport in their country of origin & then it's that countries problem not ours.

And I didn't say all of them - but there are dozens in that 141 who are convicted criminals.

Quote:
Constitutional law expert and UNSW Professor George Williams said it was “unusual” for the court to leave a government “flying blind” by delivering a verbal verdict that had an immediate effect, potentially months in advance of providing the reasoning behind the decision so that Labor might legislate to mitigate the fallout from the ruling.

It’s important to acknowledge the court left Labor in this difficult position, because in many ways it has left the government fighting with one hand behind its back.

Now why do you think the High Court would do something like that?

They are not a "law unto themselves". They do not ... or they're not supposed to "run the country".

And a court should also be concerned that their decisions do not adversely affect Australian citizens.

And that's what they've done by their actions.

Straight back in they should go. Then on the first plane to their own country of origin.

Once there they are no longer our problem.

This has nothing to do with me....The High Court of Australia has determined that only courts of law can rule on crimes and set punishments....Wanting Politicians to decide someone is guilty and setting unlimited detention is against the law and violates the Constitution....If you don't like the decision take it up with the High Court of Australia!!!

Immigration Minister Andrew Giles said the released foreigners included three murderers and several sex offenders. He offered to give deputy opposition leader Sussan Ley a breakdown later of how many had been convicted of sex crimes.

Anyone who supports this, even by way of ignoring it, is inasne.
