The laws weren't wrong, the high Court is simply enforcing those laws. Dutton was wrong in locking them up indefinitely, in doing so he made up his own laws. .

Courts don't "enforce" laws ... they interpret the law & make rulings.

And dopey ... Politicians "do make" laws.

The legislation that was struck down by the High Court were drafted by then immigration minister Peter Dutton in 2015 Frank!!!

And it didn't take long for one of the criminal child sex offending asylum seekers who refused to wear an ankle bracelet to go missing.

Should never have been released.

The government committed to mandatory electronic monitoring of the released detainees, but already four of the 141 non-citizens released since the November 8 ruling have refused.

Why refuse to wear an ankle bracelet if you have nothing to hide & want your case to stay in Australia to be successful?

Would already indicate to me that their cases have already been heard and were unsuccessful & they should have already been deported.

They'll go on the run like the Rohingya kiddy fiddler.

Some clarification for those who are claiming that most of the released asylum seekers are convicted criminals.

We know for a fact that most of those being kept in detention had failed character tests.

However, you don't necessarily need to be a convicted criminal to have failed the character test.

Section 501 of the Migration Act provides that a person does not pass the character test if they fall within any of the grounds specified in subsections 501(6)(a) to (d). These grounds can be grouped into five broad categories:

- substantial criminal record

- conviction for immigration detention offences

- association with persons suspected of engaging in criminal conduct

- past and present criminal or general conduct

- significant risk of particular types of future conduct.

So, two of the categories (in bold) don't involve criminal convictions.

Sure, they're still not the sort of people we want coming here and I'm glad that their asylum seeker applications were rejected.

However, let's just stick to the facts: most failed the character test, but we have no idea at the moment how many are convicted criminals.

Moreover, Australian-born convicted criminals who have served their terms are being released into the community every day.
