Female tradies.

Yes there are many joining the ranks of being tradies (blue collar workers) etc
We have a female electrician that does a lot of great work for us.

Just watched Grace Webb on her show Grace’s amazing machines. She is a petite young blonde and we’ve watched her shows where she can ride and drive any machine!
She is just amazing and a good example for other young girls to choose any path (that were not readily available in my youth).

Being from a mechanical family background, my mum, myself, and my daughter learnt a lot.
Even if it meant checking car tyers and knowing how to pump air into them at the right PSI.
Good for girls to know! And many lads too may not know so it’s good to know car basics.

I’ve watched decades of mechanical repairs…. I love the shed/garage… one of my fave places to hang out

The first is a a guy breaking down engines to show the fault—broken piston rods etc. 95% and more are . . . people not checking and not changing the oil in the engines.

Way back in the late 1980s, sis was divorced and drove with me and my business partner and his wife. We filled up with petrol in Darlington. Sis was on her learners and driving my car.

I made my sis do the petrol. When she thought it was time to go pay for the petrol I smiled and opened the bonnet, made her check oil and battery. Then I made her check tyre pressure. Partners’ wife all “He is cruel making her do all that” to which partner replied “She doesn’t have a husband to do it for her” and some comment about the wife driving their car that was really low on oil because she didn’t know (and didn’t want to do) what was needed to fix it.

Just rolled in is hilarious!

When I was at Tech for Motor Mech, there was a girl who was an apprentice Auto Electrician. Went out with her for a little while, took her to my sister's wedding. Hey, Olwen!

The Sparky that did our house after the flood has a daughter, she gave up on UNI and became his apprentice.

When my hubby went to Richmond Tech to receive his certificates for finishing his motor mech apprenticeship in 1976 … guess who was there as guest speaker…. with long hair down to his shoulders, body shirt, and wide flared jeans…..Peter Brock!

I was 22 and hot also (like Agnes

) and I caught Brocky gawking at me ….
Well I was the only young gal there at presentation… I went along with hubby because we’d only been married 2 weeks.
Anyway, Brocky gave a good talk to the lads about stuff…. One thing that always stood out to me was his advice to all of us young ones… when driving, to always leave room for error.
Good advice that stuck with me for life.

My first serious girlfriend had a Cortina MK1 , and she did all her own repairs on that car.

She even changed the motor and gearbox.

She worked in a sandwich bar and was about 5 foot nothing and weighed around 50kgs, but she was good with cars - her older brothers taught her.

There’s no doing that with the modern computerised cars … maybe with the older cars…the classics they’re called now…. one of our fave pastimes is going to classic show ‘n shine car shows.

I will look for some pics I’ve taken in past.

Geez 14,000 plus photos on my phone!
