Blood pressure

For a relatively straight forward blood pressure condition requiring one tablet daily, it was $50 added to the policy, but for two tablets it went to $350!      I did read through the policy and spent time with a fine tooth comb deciphering what I could and it all seemed OK.  So, I went with it and hope I haven’t missed anything!

I have 30 days to cancel it so, I have posted on a few social media forums to see what other’s opinions of it are

Before you tried medication, did you try doing some HIIT or a sauna once a week?

I lost weight and the problem went away but I will eventually be on BP pills.

I am on a very low dose of medication Gordon.   I do an exercise program worked out by an exercise physiologist that takes into account my age, limiting factors like knees and back, and other factors.  My BMI is well within my height and weight so I am sort of in reasonable nick.   I do have an eptopic heart beat that was only discovered recently - never knew about it!

Thanks for the exercise advice, I do hop in the sauna now and again, it does help with a skin condition I have, but not so much the blood pressure side

My main point in posting the original was that this company seem to be placing their risk strategy more on the amount of medication taken , rather than the condition itself.

Risk factor = consequences x likelihood to give a score.    Seems odd to use it on the medication side.

Ouch, that is a big price rise.
My BP was up overly high, over a few months I have got it down. It was quite an effort but I prefer to not use medication if I can resolve issues myself.

I gave up alcohol and coffee.
I also take psyllium husk powder once every few days. A retired doctor put me onto it, he said it reduces your cholesterol!
It's really good for your digestive system.

Good luck Vic. BP is good to keep an eye on.

Even with knees and back issues, you should be able to go flat out on an assault bike as they're very low impact. I can run/sprint flat out but I know if I do it often enough I'll do some damage. I can jump on the assault but literally 10 seconds after I wake up, no warm up and go flat out.

Dying 'medically' is an expensive way to go in this part of the world which is the most 'virulent' Region of the World. Have faith in a local native mushroom and enjoy the ride.

2 litres of scotch per week every week for the last 2 months. Go to the doctor for an immunisation. I forget what my blood pressure was. But the reading was "good" according to the doctor. My heart rate was sitting at 72 beats per minute.

Back in the day when i was fitness instructor anyone on BP medication needed a written clearance from their doctor before we could work with them.

Some exercises like weights can increase blood pressure while exercising.

If you consider fluid mechanics clogging of arteries makes them smaller inside diameter which means pressure has to increase to flow the same volume.

For heart health and weight loss the Pritikin diet works. It's similar in concept to what athletes at the AIS eat.

Quote:
Pritikin Diet

The Promise
The Pritikin Program for Diet and Exercise, which hit the best-seller list in 1979, is the granddaddy of diet books.

Its ideas -- that eating low-fat, high-fiber foods and getting regular exercise can stave off or even reverse heart disease and help people stay at a healthy weight -- were considered downright shocking.

Now, those ideas are considered standard.

Right Ho, Jeeves. 1934.

I must say I saw the girl's viewpoint. It's only about once in a lifetime that anything sensational ever happens to one, and when it does, you don't want people taking all the colour out of it. I remember at school having to read that stuff where that chap, Othello, tells the girl what a hell of a time he'd been having among the cannibals and what not. Well, imagine his feelings if, after he had described some particularly sticky passage with a cannibal chief and was waiting for the awestruck "Oh-h! Not really?", she had said that the whole thing had no doubt been greatly exaggerated and that the man had probably really been a prominent local vegetarian.

Yes, I saw Angela's point of view.

"But don't tell me that when he saw how shirty she was about it, the chump didn't back down?"

"He didn't. He argued. And one thing led to another until, by easy stages, they had arrived at the point where she was saying that she didn't know if he was aware of it, but if he didn't knock off starchy foods and do exercises every morning, he would be getting as fat as a pig, and he was talking about this modern habit of girls putting make-up on their faces, of which he had always disapproved. This continued for a while, and then there was a loud pop and the air was full of mangled fragments of their engagement. I'm distracted about it. Thank goodness you've come, Bertie."

"Nothing could have kept me away," I replied, touched. "I felt you needed me."

"Yes."

"Quite."
