As a newbie here, I'm just wondering why this thread
appears to be nothing more than pointless in-fighting,
which seems to be at odds with both the intent and the
rules of OzPol.

I've also noted numerous other threads across the forum
that all too often turn into nothing more than a petty
bitching session, usually by members (invariably the same
ones) who totally derail the original intent of the thread's OP.

Why is so much inappropriate, rule breaching condoned by
the various moderators?

Why are so many perpetrators not benched?

(Even I spent some time in the sin bin a couple of weeks
ago—despite not infringing any forum rules.)

When you have been on this Board (including its predecessor) for 20 plus years, let me know Geoff.

It doesn’t much matter how long a person has been in any forum… it’s “first impressions last” type thing yes? It’s stating the obvious with fresh eyes. How can we lure any new members to stay and infuse fresh vibes if what they see is negativity crop up and particularly from past.
One thing though… if dredging the past… it needs to be in perspective with time…it may have been accurate of a person say, 5 or 10 years ago… but not accurate for current relationships.

It’s hard to find good underneath constant display of negativity but it’s there.
Maybe some think it’s a sign of weakness (or vulnerability) showing their better sides?
But that’s how life is…after all….we all want to protect ourselves, it’s a learnt life rule. Sometimes learnt the hard way. Then we all know what regrets are.
To err is to be human, but we are all very human.

Look… you know what… it’s something I’ve learnt being born and bred an Ozzy….
It doesn’t matter how much erring one has done, if a person is dead set on knocking them constantly, it turns people against the one doing the knocking(criticism).
That’s just the way it is.
Hence why you may be getting resistance with what you are trying to do/say/reveal.
I’m sure we are all guilty of doing that at some point/s in our lives.
It does get to a stage where that’s all people will see you as, rather than doing other more interesting stuff.

I wish that held more weight in real RL but it doesn’t as an ex lawyer Aussie, you would understand what I mean.
I must say a positive about you I have observed though… I wish I had a lawyer like you asking the constant tough questions in my 3 year legal battle recently…. the ones I had were a bit weak.
