Nearly 40 years ago the GSXR 750 came out in 1985.

Unleaded fuel became mandatory in 1986 the GSXR had to be detuned the 1985 model was faster.

At 176 Kg it was around 30 kg heavier than RD250 i had.

Hi Baron,
I never rode one of them - did you?

I rode that model and the 1986 model which had lower compression for unleaded fuel.

Had a go on first GSXR 1100 as well

Also rode a Honda CB1100 R the same model Wayne Gardner won castrol 6 hour with.

A friend had Kawasaki GPZ 750 turbo had a go on that as well, just as fast as my 1100 had less bottom end power.

Here is a video of Yamaha TZR 250 the last 250 2 stroke road bike made by Yamaha giving it to bigger bikes on a track day.

Those vintage TZ 250s were fantastic.

They also had a 350cc version.

I'm not sure I could right it if it fell over.

GSXR 750 on the dyno

134 hp at back wheel about 60hp more than Bobbys old 750 2 stroke and a little bit more than my old GPZ 1100

Interesting how drive by wire throttle doesn't give full throttle when you hold it flat.

The gear maps look interesting, for track work you could do specific maps if having wheelspin problems in certain gear on any part of track.

You can skip first bit start around 4 min.

A 2023 Suzuki.
Why does the factory program the ECU like that?

And yes - a lot more power than my bike from 1974.
That's progress in 50 years.

It has several modes you can select while riding the Wet mode probably restricts is far more.

I can understand knobbling it a bit in 1st or 2nd gear but 5th gear flat out should be flat out.

I would say all manufacturers restrict them electronically they have their reasons not sure i agree with them.

Drive by wire is good for traction control and wheelie control one day they will give it cruise control.

The 600 cc have over 100Hp these days modern bikes have come a long way.

Some things were better in our day we could ride pretty good 250 cc on L plates.

Thanks Baron -
in Victoria it's similar:
https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/licences/motorcycle-licence-and-learner-permit/a...

I notice these 1970s and 1980s motorcycles are not on the list as approved for novices:

Honda CB 750,
Kawasaki H2 750,
Kawasaki H1 500
Kawasaki Z900,
Yamaha RG500.

In fact there are no 750 cc bikes allowed and
they don't allow the old 500cc high performance 2 strokes either.
