Iraqi refugee Abthar Al-Athmany charged with shocking rape of girl at Parramatta’s Meriton Suites

Prosecutors will allege Iraqi refugee Abthar Al-Athmany took part in the joint rape of a 15-year-old girl before he and a co-accused allegedly tried to pimp her out for sex on social media.

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly stripped naked, blindfolded and raped at knifepoint by two western Sydney teens who later tried to pimp her out on Instagram, a court has heard.

Details of what police allege was a “humiliating” assault inside Parramatta’s Meriton Suites can be revealed for the first time after one of the teen’s charged over the alleged abuse, Abthar Bassam Talib Al-Athmany, was granted strict conditional bail in the NSW Supreme Court late last year.

Court documents released exclusively to The Daily Telegraph said Al-Athmany, an Iraqi immigrant aged 19 at the time, allegedly joined a 17-year-old boy in tying up the girl, forcibly removing her clothing and videoing themselves subjecting her to a series of degrading and violent acts on the evening of August 27 last year.

A second female is alleged to have arrived later in the night to check on the girl’s welfare and was prevented from leaving the room and ordered to take her clothes off, according to the court documents.

The court heard the second female – one of the girl’s friends – saw the posts on Instagram and attended the hotel out of concern.

The Iraqi refugee accused of forcing a 15-year-old girl to strip naked before raping her repeatedly under cold water has been granted bail.

Abthar Bassam Talib Al-Athmany, 19, and an unnamed 17-year-old boy allegedly abused the teenage girl for several hours at the Parramatta Meriton Suites on August 27, 2023.

Many details in prosecution documents obtained by the Daily Telegraph have been redacted due to their explicit and graphic nature.

he girl was allegedly threatened with a kitchen knife and told to strip naked before she was forced to perform sexual acts while being filmed, according to police fact sheets.

Police will allege she was blindfolded with her own t-shirt and raped repeatedly by the two men in the shower recess while under cold running water.

The court heard the two men allegedly used the teenager to advertise prostitution and drugs by posting two photos on her personal Instagram page.

She had thought she was picking up a friend's phone from the hotel when she was allegedly lured there by a male associate.

The men are accused of holding a second woman captive and forcing her to take her clothes off when she arrived at the room to check on the girl.

It is alleged the two women managed to escape the hotel at 3.30am the following morning and went straight to a relative's home, who contacted the police.

Al-Athmany was arrested at his Hinchinbrook home later that day and charged with the aggravated sexual assault of the 15-year-old.

Those are the fig-yures, Major Kong... some 97% of refugee claimants have turned out to be good citizens as opposed to somewhere in the low 70's for immigros... those 'we' let in by the rules are here to break and bend the rules and alter our society ... they came from shitholes and want to feel at home here... those who sought refuge here wanted a better life free from the madness back home... I could say my Sri Lankan GP is one such.... and she is brilliant.
