Given Trump's woes, if he's nominated, and then disqualified from running for president, the best-placed spot in the running would be his nominated VP who would, by default, become the Republican presidential candidate.

I'd bet all the contenders would crawl over broken glass to secure the Republican nomination for VP.

And what's the bet Trump will hold out naming his VP running mate.

Just as anyone remaining in the contest would be the automatic winner ?

Not the automatic winner, they'd have to be the nominated VP, but the mood of the US so-called independent voters (swing voters) would be somewhat tilted back to the Republican party if Trump was disqualified from running and an acceptable VP took the spot.

The independent voters are tipped to determine who will be the next US president - they are apparently leaning towards the Democrats, particularly after Trump dismissed them all as irrelevant to the election outcome.

No not what I meant. If there were two nominees still standing when Trump was ruled out - say Hayley and Donny. When Donny goes down the only nominee left for President would he Hayley and she would be the nominee for President. At that point the gop presidential run would only have one contestant.

With Trump clearly banned from office because of the 14th amendment this is as likely as not.

He doesn't need to nominate a VP until mid-year.

I am interested in how long Biden will hold out before 'suspending' his candidacy.

Hope he does but he won't. Maybe if Trump drops out as he cannot beat anyone else.
