From memory, I made only two replies, one which Monk has posted leaving the date out.

The subject was always a cheque he was sending me, NOT cash.

He even described the cheque as being made out to me.

First in the title, then 'made out to' (I have obviously redacted my name which Monk typed there,) and then later in the substance of the PM. A total of three unequivocal references to a cheque being sent.... NOT cash.
