She was the fifth of six children of Tom O'Donoghue, a stockman and pastoral lease holder of Irish descent,

O'Donoghue was born on De Rose Hill cattle station
in far north South Australia.  Which clearly makes her
an Australian by birth.    How stupid are you mate?

Irish don't accept Australian born as 'Irish'.

Where on Earth did you get that piece of utterly erroneous information?
Or did you just make it up?

How do you know that for a fact?

I don't think he said she was Irish.

He posted a quote that said her father was Irish.

Her christian name was Lois... a name which she held until relatively recent times ... when she changed it to something sounding as if it was traditional Aboriginal... Grin

LOWITJA ... the similarity to her given name is quite humorous.

Whiter than I am but got the features.... now she was part of the stolen generation?  Well - I guess so was everyone else around at that time.... somehow all are either included or accorded responsibility.... so all were involved even when sleeping and unknowing.. the sleep of the Just....

You know what?  I think I'll call BS on that one.....

"In September 1934, aged two years, Lowitja was handed over to the missionaries at the Colebrook Home"

"When she was just two years old, she and two of her sisters were taken away from their mother by missionaries on behalf of South Australia's Aboriginal Protection Board to Oodnadatta run by the Baptists."

So which is it going to be?  Parents handed her over because they couldn't cope with all the kids and felt they would get a better life, feed etc elsewhere... or was she 'stolen'/taken away?

"According to O'Donoghue, she was very happy living at Colebrook and said she received a sound education both there and at the Quorn Primary School. The Quorn community at large actively encouraged children from the home to participate in local events, and assisted in the maintenance of the home. Only a few people objected to the integration.[17] In 1944 Colebrook Home moved to Eden Hills, South Australia, due to chronic water shortages, enabling her to attend Unley High School, a local public school, and obtain her Intermediate Certificate. She was taught up until the Leaving Certificate standard but did not sit for the examination"

Hmmmmm - just hmmmmmm.... nope .... hmmmmm and hmmmmer ... so out in the Nong she'd be uneducated, maybe underfed, taken as someone's illiterate 'wife' at fourteen, etc.... amongst the maligned Chriso's she was happy...... hmmmmmer....

This is like the crying on ABC by that descendant of one of the women at the Appin Massacre - the men who killed sixteen Whites including women and defenceless children were killed in a fair fight - the women and children taken into protective custody - and that crying woman wouldn't be here if they had all been been 'massacred'.  FFS ...

I'm sick of this 'truth telling' already .... it is literally sickening to listen to a pack of lies...

The first hint that the Irish of Europe don't accept Australians as Irish when claiming connection.
Came when Australian Rules first took on Gaelic Football in a hybrid string of matches. The 'violence' from those first few games was pretty evident (if you've seen em?).
Australian Irish quickly became 'inferior Irish' to 'not irish at all'.
"Don't need some Australian saying he's Irish too, because he wasn't born in Eire for starters and probably has a splodge of ancestry. Spongers - all of em (Australians)!"

Anyone would think the Irish of Ireland think Australians are more like Hungarians?

She apparently DELIBERATELY chose it because it was similar to her christened name.

Identifies as a Lowitja ... that's all it takes these days...... that's how we pronounce it around here....

Frunk-en-STEEN ... Eyegor!  You know I'm a very good surgeon - I could help you with that chip on your shoulder.....

That's virtually what I said .... but she didn't "choose" it .... it was made up to be similar.

You won't find what meaning it has.  Grin

If her father or grandfather was Irish then she too was Irish with all the rights of Irish citizenship.
