It was over thirty years ago - and a long time before I met Ian - and hung out with him as one of my 'gym buddies' - at Bayswater Gym, King's Cross.
I've never been a sports follower, so I've only known him as "Ian, from gym"
What surprise to most people, is hearing what a polite, softly spoken, gentle soul, he really is.
I'd have gladly gone in a little "closer" - but at that time, he's had a very "protective" and jealous (and short) boyfriend - who'd never made any attempt to introduce himself.
Obviously, I.R. was a very different guy on the footy field !
