Solar plus battery, suggestions?

I now have a 6.2KV solar system, no battery.

A tradesperson who has done some work for me suggested I get a battery as well.

A battery will cost and I may even need a new inverter.

With a LiFePO system (lithium iron phosphate) the danger of the battery catching fire is pretty minimal—need to check this out.

Suggestions? Worth it getting a battery?

Personally I won't be getting a photovoltaic system and/or
battery as I'll be dead before their costs would be amortised LOL.

You'll be looking at $10K to $12K for the battery. The price is
usually expressed as $ per kWh (kilowatt hour) and is between
$900 to $2,000 per kWh.

But remember your electricity will actually be costing you more
than mains for probably the first five years after installation, and
it may take up to ten years to get a 100% saving.

Well, I got panels and expect to make my money back on them and more before getting carried out of here in a pine box—I am not sitting here waiting to die! I also have an eye to my beneficiary after I pass.

The power supply to the house appears stable enough but I have only experienced one fairly mild winter here so a battery might be useful just to keep power going without interruptions.

But not a straight lithium ion battery—fire danger with them.

A lot cheaper upfront than a solar system.

Although it would take me many years to recoup the up front cost I am thinking that being totally independent is worth more than the actual cost. Still tossing it up.

I want to renovate this place, want to buy a van to sometimes escape the Tassie winter and see something of Australia. Was thinking of spending 6 months in England—then what do I do with Socks? So think it will be travelling around the mainland.

Not much to do in winter. I have never driven the Nullabor, never been to the Pilbara, Townsville, the GBR—might as well see that before it or myself die, eh—etc.
