Relationships - 'Coercive control.'

Really?

Link.

This is naked political pandering to noisy people from whom we heard nothing until their family were harmed.  It is reactionary to one incident....Hannah....tearing with the bereaved.

I get that.

Domestic violence is appalling and the Law should go after it.

But it does...already has.

Any act of domestic violence is an offence already under criminal law and the domestic violence legislation.

But this......just adds a very subjective overlay into an already complex situation.

"Coercive control."

WTF does that mean in real terms.

I am subject to coercive control every day every minute.  It's called the Law.

Government exercises 'coercive control.'

I would not like to be the Copper who arrests some abusive bastard and then has to reach for this 'coercive control' bullshit to nail the offender, because there is nothing else on the books, when fact is.....there is plenty there on the books already!

Rubbish.

I guess 'emotional blackmail' ("If you don't let me into your country and body, I will kill myself!"  Angry) might be part of this?

Aussie...unfortunately you've not grasped the totality of the reality behind those 2 words.

Shame we don't have a Law and Order sub forum. I have so much to contribute regarding such topics.

Coercive control is a very good law.

It is a strong precursor toward domestic violence.
