‘Out of control’: Burger chain price fury after $36.50 receipt for just burger, fries and small drink
A receipt from burger chain Five Guys has sparked anger after it was revealed a standard takeaway meal was approaching $40 in price.

News.com.au
March 8, 2024

Does valet parking and VIP seating come with this too?

An uproar over a pricey bacon cheeseburger and fries at a Five Guys burger outlet is causing a stir on social media, baffling many over why the meal deal cost a customer nearly $40.   Sad

Five Guys is a US burger chain which has a number of restaurants in Australia including in Sydney’s CBD, Penrith in Sydney’s west and Melbourne’s Southbank. This year it will open at Sydney’s Accor and CommBank stadiums.

Its local prices have also come under scrutiny after a food reviewer bristled at paying $215 for six burgers with added fries and drinks.

Five Guys, is bug in the US and is growing in Australia.

A user account on X/Twitter exposed the popular fast food joint by posting a receipt he found on Reddit that showed a bacon cheeseburger in a US Five Guys – on its own – cost $US12.49 ($18.91), reported the New York Post.

The receipt also displayed a drink priced at $US2.89 ($4.37), and small fries for $US5.19 ($7.86) — all amounting to $US21.91 ($33.16).

And, even more eyebrow raising was a tip spotted on the receipt for $US2.19 ($3.31).

Altogether, with tax also added on separately, that amounted to $US24.10 or $36.48.

“Five Guys prices are out of control,” the X user wrote. “$24 for one person”.

“I guess I was expecting about $12 to $15 per person for Five Guys. $22 (without tip) just seems to cross a line. What is the right amount these days?” the post, which garnered over 25 million views asked.

Social media users stormed into the comment section, with many sounding off on the pricey meal they feel comes from an “overrated” fast-food joint.

Is this really worth $36.50 with chips and a drink?

Aussie’s fury at Five Guys’ prices   Sad

In Australia, Five Guys opened in 2021. But one foodie was less than impressed by the prices.

TikTok creator Fred, who posts under the handle @abrakebabra_reviews, said he paid $215 for six burgers, four lots of fries, and three milkshakes.

Yet, said Fred, it was only on a par with Hungry Jack’s offerings.

“I cannot justify paying this amount of money for this. I’d go straight to Hungry Jacks,” he said in a video shared this week.

“The honest truth is it is f***ing sh*t.”

He ended his TikTok rant by describing the burger as “slop” and telling Five Guys to “go back to where you came from”.

Five Guys prices in Australia vary compared to America. Burgers in Sydney start at $17 and can come in at $21 for one topped with bacon and cheese.

Cult US burger chain receipt angers Aussies

Cult US burger chain opens in Australia
Milkshakes are $9.90, while fries cost between $5.90 and $9.90, dependant on size.

So while Americans my be frustrated at the price of Five Guys – it’s still cheaper than the same products in Australia.

hi whiteknight

you are always vibing with anger and ingratitude

try this

every morning, before you get out of bed , do a meditation where you think what it would be like to live with no arms and no legs.

imagine what it would be like and feel into it for 10 minutes

then get on with your day.

now when you read about an overpriced burger, you will have some perspective.

"oh my god, i have my arms and my legs, i am so so so happy. nothing can affect my positive frame"

comparison is the enemy of joy

your suffering is the difference between what you want and what you get

LOL...

There's an all-too-obvious solution to this first-world "problem".

If you think a fast food chain's prices are excessive or unrealistic,
simply don't patronise them.  I would've thought that'd be obvious FFS.

BTW, a McDonald's large 'Aussie Angus Deluxe' with fries and Coke
is $16.60, and a 'Double McSpicy'  with fries and Coke is $18.40.

So... is Five Guys pricing all that steep in comparison?

Maybe. I doubt this place gives off a Maccas vibe.

Do they get their 'burger meat' from the same supplier as Macca's and HJs?

I like to stick with the food I can identify from fast fooders - chips and onion rings.  Snack and then home.  Even the fish and chips has sold out with 'South American Flathead' - whatever it is has a flat head after being bonked by a club, I'd say... the only fish you can trust these days is the ones you catch....

They don't seem to have prices on their website, but they do have videos showing how the food is made, so it has to be better than McDonalds.

Just found a list on menulog.  They're not cheap, more like restaurant prices.

Never heard of them before now. As the last time I ate at one of these fast food establishments was about a month ago while waiting for my car to be serviced (KFC and it was shite) I doubt the prices will bother me except insofar as it is an indication of the generally outrageous cost of living.

Small fries (chips) at McDonald's weigh in at 114g, and sells for $3.20.

Woolies sells washed spuds for $3.75 per kg.

This means the suckers who buy chips at Maccas are paying more
than $28 per kg for their salt addiction.

The weight of a "Quarter Pounder" beef patty is 120g and sells for
$7.40 including a 40¢ bun and maybe 90¢ cheese, lettuce, pickles
and sauce.

So... the beef patty is worth around $6.00, which means you're paying
the equivalent of $144.00 per kg for your beef mince based on $18.00
per kg
at Woolies.

Welcome to the commercial world of price gouging my friends.    Angry

They don't make the burger patties out of high quality beef -
they use all the cheaper bits: ears and even the brains etc.  YUCK.

WK, you like to pretend to stand up for the battler, but this one just demonstrates that you are completely out of touch.
