I have to admit I'd never heard of RT news...
RT (formerly Russia Today or Rossiya Segodnya) is a
Russian state-controlled international news television
network funded by the Russian government. It operates
pay television and free-to-air channels directed to audiences
outside Russia, as well as providing Internet content in
Russian, English, Spanish, French, German and Arabic,
as a brand of TV-Novosti.
Vladimir Putin included "TV-Novosti" on his list of core
organisations of strategic importance to Russia. RT has
regularly been described as a major propaganda outlet for
the Russian government and its foreign policy.
Academics, fact-checkers, and news reporters (including
some current and former RT reporters) have identified RT
as a purveyor of disinformation and conspiracy theories,
functioning in some circumstances, (like the 2016 US.
presidential election), as a part of a larger Russian
disinformation apparatus with the goal of undermining
"public faith in the US democratic process."
n 2022, Martin Moore and Thomas Colley of King's College
London noted that RT's coverage of the 2020 US presidential
election was anti-Joe Biden and pro-Trump, with RT promoting
the Trump campaign's unfounded claims that Biden was the
head of a "crime family". Following the election, RT uncritically
promoted Trump's unfounded claims of electoral fraud.
Here In Australia, SBS suspended broadcasting RT News
on 25 February 2022. The RT channel was also removed
from Australian pay TV provider Foxtel's listings the next day.
—As a reliable news source then, RT is worthless,
so there's no point in citing it as any sort of support
for anyone's claims here.
