But yes, I think a yearly inspection is important, I think I will get one soon as having forked out $40,000 for repairs 2 years ago is not a light affair!

Sure the stuff is dear but we are paying for it… our place to do was $4,000

Wanna know what I noticed after it was done?
We had a lot of ants (big ants… I think we’re sugar ants never bit anyone) in big nests near the house… I suspect it went under the slab … well after termite treatment… they were no more.
Totally gone!
And infact, spider population was gone also.
In the Gold Coast residence, were always a lot of daddy long legs… after termite treatment, they were no more.
So that termite stuff does more than rid of termites.
That’s the tell tale signs I now know so it’s the real stuff being used.

The yellow and black are good... the smaller red and blacks are good... little blacks are fine... greens can bite but aren't that aggro, the Jumping Jacks are vicious.. the ones that build those conical nests and jump at you .... any time I see a fire ant I kill it... and send 'em all to hell... Angry

Watched a few doco's on them. They're expecting the Fire Ants to wipe out many of Australia's indigenous populations.

Whatever will kill them all - let ant god sort 'em out... Fire Ants that is... the rest are welcome here that we've got including the Greens... they're just caring over their environment, man.... got no Jumping Jacks... they'll get the Hamas treatment too...

We haff der small blacks, the Greens and some Argentines in zer kitchen.... until the Eld Gel spots them.... like all women she is a killer at heart, born and bred....

On the house built of stone and wood we had the orange barrier stuff under the lowest layer.....council requirement ... not much good if you ask me.... but they don't like stone and Ironbark anyway.

These people paid money for a trusted service and were let down…. badly!
It makes me wonder how many others are in the same situation but don’t know it yet (their homes infested etc) because termites are a silent destroyer.
I’ve read where bedroom ceilings have caved in after termite damage which the home owners knew nothing of.

Best house to build is with concrete slab floor and blue steel frame!

Oh and our own home here was affected by termites! Not an insurable problem either.
Cost us $40,000 in repairs and replacements.
We used steel to replace wooden beams.
And $4000 for termite treatment.
We’ve been in the house 31 years, and this problem presented itself 5 years ago.

Don’t know where these termites came from as we don’t live anywhere close to any other houses.

Termites are subterranean ... they travel underground from anywhere there may be a nest on your or your neighbors property.

As Grappler said they also fly in when swarming like bees with a new queen to set up a new colony.

Places on acreage with trees are even more prone.

Houses should never place garden beds around the brickwork sides of a house..... especially with pine or chip bark garden beds....

it's just the start of a beautiful entrée for them to start on the main course ....your house.

Don’t know where these termites came from as we don’t live anywhere close to any other houses.

They fly in in great numbers in Spring... Ironbark like the built house down south.... they hate that... but I don't think you can get it any more. The garage frame and the house frame two homes back was all ironbark rough sawn in the 1950's - the owner owned a sawmill. No white ants.

My house is hardwood framed ... but we did discover a white ant intrusion when we had the bathroom renovated about 10 or so years ago.

Cypress pine(hard to come by) also has natural termite resistance ... the smell keeps them away.

What they really love is all the houses built today with soft plantation pine frames ... pine is like candy to them.

In saying that though, over time as all timber ages regardless of hardwood or cypress resistance if they're hungry enough they will have a crack at it.

Vigilance is the key .... late last year I had a termite barrier system installed that cost me $2,200

Mine is around 5 years ...but I will have an inspection every 12 months anyways .... we've had a lot of rain.

As well as Red Fire Ants we have another ant invader called the Yellow Crazy Ant .... another scourge.

Yellow Crazy ants don't have a sting like fire ants but they spray formic acid that causes skin irritation like rashes and also burn.

Like fire ants they are very aggressive when disturbed.

Yellow Crazy Ants origins are SE Asia.

The Red Fire Ant is from Sth America.
