I think in Aussie weapons are graded in classes.
Whatever weapon assailants have you are allowed to use a weapons of that grade or 1 class higher.

If someone throws a tennis ball at you, you should not shoot them.
If they approach you with knives, it is a different scenario.

Pavement apes in Alice Springs -  dear oh dear.

I was watching "Going Places" with Ernie Dingo just a couple of days ago. He was in East Arnhem country and started interviewing an "Auntie" who was keeping the old languages alive etc. They then went for a walk with her son who is now "The Boss" of this area according to Ernie, his name was "Shorty". Anyway they visit this sacred area and then sit down to tell a dream-time story. The story is about "Shorty's" male ancestor who couldn't find a wife. It all starts off great; wondering through country to find a wife until he comes to this sacred place and finds a woman on her own. You could see the cameras move in and Ernie smiling, expecting a lovely ending to a wife being found etc. Then it all unexpectedly goes to poo, live on camera.                                                                   "Shorty" tells how the male smashes his boomerang into her knees, breaks them and they bleed, running all over the ground. This leads to the naming of the area around them (I forget what he called it in language) referring to the woman bleeding from the knees. Ernie initially sort of shrugs it off but you can see it's getting uncomfortable. Then "Shorty" continues on explaining how his ancestor then smashed the women over the head with his boomerang ( I'm not making this up, you can probably chase the episode down), and that's how he finally got his wife and it was all happy ever afters lol. Now Ernie is really stuck and for a moment isn't sure what to say or do. "Shorty" carries on, smiling as if it's how it is and should be when Ernie finally steps up and says "well you can't do that nowadays". "Shorty" reluctantly agrees and says; "nah I guess you go to prison nowadays".                                                                                                                                I was watching it unfold and thinking of all that entails and the realities of the situation regarding indigenous Australians. I honestly don't know what the answer is to that, other than time and very slowly integrating more "white fella" senses of right and wrong I guess. The truth is "Shorty" whom effectively owns that land and his mother, whom already knew the story and was pleased as punch for Ernie to hear it, are the reality modern day "thinkers" don't truly grasp.
