This relationship between Queen Victoria and Indian Muslim Abdul Karim was hidden from the public for more than a century.

The story presents a much more human side of Queen Victoria than the UK public were aware of. She established and fostered a relationship with an Indian Muslim man whom she called her Munshi = teacher.

He was the son of a Pox Doctor's Clerk and assistant. Abdul Karim was born in Agra, India, in 1862 to father Sheikh Mohammed Waziruddin, a hospital assistant. In 1887, as part of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, Karim was one of two Indians who arrived to serve in the Queen's household; the other was Mohammed Bukhsh.

Victoria was the accidental queen; none of her uncles sired legitimate children - she was the eldest legitimate grandchild of King George III, succeeding her uncle, William IV.

Despite the legendary Victorian-era prudishness, Victoria, herself, was highly sexed - similar to her uncles.

She wanted nothing more than to be a German Hausfrau and had an absolute psychological need for a take-charge man in her life.

Her German husband Prince Albert met that need until he died relatively young.

Her chronic, psychiatric mourning for Albert was only relieved by the presence of, usually 'inappropriate', non-aristocratic, male favourites in her life, such as the Scottish John Brown and Abdul Karim - the Munshi.

Her uncles had dozens of illegitimate kids, George IV had 36, William IV had 10... and that's just 2 of George's sons!

Victoria, herself, had 9... all legitimate - or at least that's the story!
