Statement from President Joe Biden on Iran’s Attacks against the State of Israel

    Home

    Briefing Room
    Statements and Releases

Earlier today, Iran—and its proxies operating out of Yemen, Syria and Iraq—launched an unprecedented air attack against military facilities in Israel. I condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms.

At my direction, to support the defense of Israel, the U.S. military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the course of the past week.  Thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our servicemembers, we helped Israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles.

I’ve just spoken with Prime Minister Netanyahu to reaffirm America’s ironclad commitment to the security of Israel.  I told him that Israel demonstrated a remarkable capacity to defend against and defeat even unprecedented attacks – sending a clear message to its foes that they cannot effectively threaten the security of Israel.

Tomorrow, I will convene my fellow G7 leaders to coordinate a united diplomatic response to Iran’s brazen attack.  My team will engage with their counterparts across the region.  And we will stay in close touch with Israel’s leaders.  And while we have not seen attacks on our forces or facilities today, we will remain vigilant to all threats and will not hesitate to take all necessary action to protect our people.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you think this may be a mistake on America's part? It seems that Iran was indicating that its salvo would be the end of the matter barring further retaliation- revenge for the embassy exacted, issue over.

Now, that seems unlikely. This may roll on and have dire consequences for the world economy or worse.

Biden is not only a fool, he is a monster. Israel have been trying to drag the US into a war with Iran for ages ... looks like all they needed to do was blow up a consulate in Syria. I didn't see Biden condemn that in the strongest terms ... of rush of the the UN for strong condemnation.

The sheer hypocrisy of the current conflicts over there is utterly staggering.

Meanwhile, Gaza starved to death with one a quarter million people trying to exist in rubble.

Evil is not a strong enough word.

The attack was a fizzer:

No drones, cruise missiles managed to reach Israel – reports

Hebrew media reports claim that not a single drone or cruise missile managed to infiltrate Israeli airspace.

According to the unsourced reports, most ballistic missiles were also knocked down outside of Israeli airspace.

A report in Ynet says some 20 cruise missiles were downed short of Israel’s borders.
The US, UK and Jordan helped take down many of the drones.

I think there is a short opening for Israel to do what it has wanted to do for years. This is to attack Iranian nuclear facilities.

IDF: 99% of the 300 or so projectiles fired by Iran at Israel overnight were intercepted

By Emanuel Fabian

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari says 99% of the 300 or so projectiles fired by Iran at Israel overnight were intercepted by air defenses.

He says Iran launched 170 drones at Israel, and not one entered Israeli airspace. They were all downed outside of the country’s borders by Israel and its allies.

Another 30 cruise missiles were launched, and not a single one entered Israeli airspace, he says. According to Hagari, 25 of them were downed by the Israeli Air Force.

In addition, Hagari says Iran fired 120 ballistic missiles at Israel. Some of the missiles managed to bypass Israel’s defenses, hitting the Nevatim Airbase in southern Israel.

Hagari says slight damage was caused to infrastructure at Nevatim, but the airbase is running as usual.

Additionally, he says, a handful of drones and missiles were launched from Iraq and Yemen amid the attack, although none entered Israeli airspace.

The IDF releases images showing fighter jets after their return from downing the Iranian drones and cruise missiles.

Astounding, Biden is not as senile as we've all been led to believe:

Biden told Netanyahu US won't back Israeli counterattack on Iran: Report

US President Joe Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Washington would not back a counterattack on Iran by Israel.

In Short

US won't support Israeli counter-attack on Iran, Biden tells Netanyahu
Message conveyed during call as Iran launches attack on Israel
Barrage of drones and missiles launched towards Israeli territory

US President Joe Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Washington would not support a counterattack on Iran by Israel, a media report said. Biden conveyed his message to Netanyahu during a call after Iran launched a barrage of drones and missiles directly towards Israeli territory on Sunday.

During the call, Biden also told Netanyahu that the US "will not participate in any offensive operations against Iran and will not support such operations", a White House official told American newsletter Axios.

To this, Netanyahu replied that he understood, the official added....

Maybe another bullet has been dodged. Let's see what Netanyahu tries to pull now.

Yes, I agree that Netanyahu has been trying to drag the US into a war with Iran for quite some time. Now, he's even more desperate to do this, given that ceasing hostilities in the Middle East will mean his date with justice. Corruption charges are pending for him, and the only way he's got to dodge this is to continue war in the region or worse.

He would rather see the world burn before meeting a verdict.

Thank god for that. I barely dared hope.

Been done once - nothing will stop the second time either.

You know, of course, if Israel attacks Iran this time around it will likely be the opening shot for WW3? Russia and China are waiting in the wings.

Joe is cognizant enough to know that he and most every rational person doesn't want that outcome.

Iran to be condemned by Moslem nations as a 'Zoroastrian' act of hostility to their Jewish friends.
