Tulip festival, Wynyard, Tas

Ripping up some of my front “lawn” to plant tulip bulbs. Thanks to some rain the ground is relatively soft and easy to dig.

Dunno much about planting tulips so looked online.

I am not being off topic here—I found this, Wynyard Tulip Festival:

https://lapoftasmania.com.au/table-cape-tulip-farm-tasmania/

Nice destination, then continue along the north coast of Tassie then down the west coast, across to Hobart (Salamanca Market etc) then New Norfolk for the antique shops there, along the East Coast to Launceston and back to Devonport and the ferry to the mainland. (take the ferry then you have your car and caravan etc.)

That Tulip Festival looks amazing in Tassy!
We have our Tesslaar tulip festival in our locality, years ago I was volunteer shift time manning the ice cream stall there! My reward was I could eat ice creams!  Grin

Found a place I can buy rhubarb crowns next month—that is near Hobart, will make a weekend excursion:

• Fri—buy spices, rhubarb crowns (a LOT of crowns!) Maybe visit New Norfolk antique shops

• Sat—Salamanca Market

• Sun—lure coursing.

Nice little trip.

Jul–Aug will drive to Cygnet to pick up tree order (mostly raspberries and blueberries) and maybe can make another bit of within–state travel?  Hmmm could visit Port Arthur on the way down?

(There is a housing coop near Pt Arthur, thought I could build a strawbale house there. The land was cheap and my trees could go in the communal orchard. Bah, place was a windswept ridge and they thought my proposed 80sqm house was too big! Forgot about that!)

Been thinking about this trip, will do it.

Need to work out when I can get rhubarb and asparagus crowns—most Australian rhubarb is grown in Tassie so no probs there. Asparagus will be more marginal but I reckon I can manage to grow it, just.

Will make it a three day trip: leave Friday morning, arrive Hobart, visit Spice House, go to accommodation. Walk Socks along river or let her run in a dog park etc. Dinner.

Next morning after walking dog etc—Salamanca market! Probably an hour in market, walk dog, hour in market, walk dog etc. Buy and eat food, accommodation.

Sunday—head to lure coursing fun run then home.

Another course near Hobart in May—maybe visit new Norfolk and the antique shops there?

Hmmm

No need to head all the way to Hobart:

https://www.plantsdirecttas.com.au/collections/vegetables/products/asparagus-mar...

Launceston Farmers Market will be where I buy rhubarb and asparagus crowns August on. OK, good to know.

But will still have a couple short holidays in/near Hobart.

I was thinking, Lols, that the Wynyard Tulip Festival might entice you to visit Tassy.

Wow! Those tulip bulbs i planted late April JUST stuck the first leaves above ground level! I thought they had died or something!

Better weed that patch.

Now still have some bulbs—might plant in pots?
