I didn’t write of any aversion of paying tax… I have a dislike of the ATO charging 12% for paying in instalments. I thought it excessive!
Half that would suffice don’t you think?

Yes. In fact there should be NO interest charged on people who can't afford to pay tax in one go.

BUT - back to the topic; how should "bankrupt" Victoria pay for essential infrastructure?

Glad we both see eye to eye RE: tax instalments should be have any interest but even half what they do charge is better than 12%

In our travels, we note Qld is doing so well with their continual road works, it’s enviable.

Our debt in Vic is so high, I wish I knew where it was all spent.
I said loooong ago… the mothers club should run the finances in our state.

I see I can't expect any ideas from you re funding infrastructure in "bankrupt" Victoria - you are happy to go with the mother's club instead....

Try telling hubby the Federal govenment can't run out of Australian dollars**, because the Oz treasury (+CB) is the only legal issuer of them (the only legal institution in the world to issue Oz dollars - apart from private banks in Oz, another story).

** and hence it can deal with Vic debt.

Poor Bobby proudly sports his ignorance of the nature of money, perhaps hubby has a more sophisticated awareness...

Continual roads works? They were working on expanding the M1 on the GC when I moved up there 16 yrs ago, they were still working on the same expansion programme when I left last year. It's only enviable for those not having to drive on it daily, for the locals it's a disaster.

Nope, too late for our rescue I’m afraid, once upon a time when it was redeemable the mothers knew best how to budget, feed family, fundraise for schools needs, and save for a rainy day.
Now… we are just left with holding the baby.
And a big one at that. Ever hungry with little growth.

Back when Libs were in circus 1980s they pulled the purse strings real tight. A lot of services cut (like visiting health nurses in rural areas for baby checks etc) schools closed down and hence crowded classrooms, I recall my mum whinging about the Libs, saying they had a porcupine in their pocket and too afraid to spend! But did Victoria lift its debt? Didn’t we become debt free at that point in time?
